Big Bike Thread

The rims on my Kona have an internal width of 17mm and came fitted with 26 x 2.0 tyres.

I'm thinking of buying a wider tyre for more grip as I've nearly come off the bike a few times when cornering as the bike has started to slide.

What's the widest tyre I could get away with and could anyone recommend me one to have a look at?

I'm thinking 2.2 - 2.25 but it's really just a guess on my part.

Edit: For context I'm mostly doing XC on woodland trails, a bit of tarmac and some hilly stuff across fields although I'm planning on going down to Glentress in a fortnight for the first time.

Don't worry so much about size, manufacturers are never true to real sizes anyway, ones 2.1 could be another's 2.3 etc, always a bit of difference. You want to look what tyres you've got on now and then pick some that will be better, tell us what you're running now and there is bound to be a few opinions.

Cheeky post-work-early-week ride , love summer.

They're Kenda tyres but I think the model has been superseded as I can't find them anywhere.

They actually 26 x 2.1

The back tyre is starting to look a bit worn in places so replacing it wouldn't be bad.

Any suggestions are welcome. :)

What pressure do you run? Anything higher than 40psi is going to feel skittish. I would try 35 but beware of pinch flatting.

I inflated them to 40psi using a compressor which is the minimum according to the writing on the tyres.

I'll let a little air out on my next ride and see how they respond.

It is but for most regular (tubed) trail tyres you're going to start getting pinch flats if you get close to 30 or aren't careful when riding, I imagine Meth's isn't running rubber queens or hans dampfs :D

same here i run tubes but don't go above 30 psi i've not had any pinch flats i've run them as low as 20 psi still no probs but i'm the twig at less then 70kg (haven't weighed myself in a while)

Has anyone seen any decent offer for some shorts? I've just noticed today I've got a big mahoosive hole in a pair, and I've shrunk a pair - So I'm now down to 1 :(

Sportsdirect normally have cheapo padded shorts that are decent enough.

Muddyfox I think they are.

Normally about 7-8 quid, mine just get muddy so I only buy cheapo ones :)

Shiny new cassette, chain and chainring, all feels lovely and crisp!

Also got a bottle cage and bottle on there now but I'm sort of keeping that bit quiet :o :p
