Hi i was going to be purchasing a laptop with a 680m sli in the next day or two and wondered if it was worth waiting for the 780m. Do you think they will be on par with each other or will the 780m be better. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

680M is basically a GTX 670 downclocked slightly
a 680MX is a downclocked 680
and a 780M is rumoured to be the same chip used on a 690, which is basically a marginally more power efficient 680 chip

670M/675M are based on Fermi, so steer clear of those, but the 670MX/675MX are both kepler GPU's too

if you can get the 680M SLI at a good price now, then I would say go for it, you are not likely to see big gains from 780M

Thanks for your advice. The price of the laptop with 680m sli will be about £1800 do you think nvidia will drop the price of the 680m so the 780m will be the price of what 680m is now or will the 780m just be dearer. Think i might just buy 680m sli now if the performance increase wont be anything significant

I would go for it as I doubt you'll see a gk110 chip in lappy so a gk104 based chip will still be king for a long time yet in a mobile platform.

nope, they are basically the same chip, all that will happen is that 680m's will gradually get run down on stock and replaced with the 780m at the same price

I heard the 780m could be 20-30% faster does any one know if this is true if it is i think it would be worth the wait and is there a release date for 780m.

the 780m is the same chip as the 680mx, so look up a comparison between a 680m and 680mx and then you'll have the answer - basically it's the same as the difference between a 670 and 680 desktop, so more like 10%

the GTX780 desktop is going to be 20-30% faster than a GTX680, but the 780M is not the same chip as the desktop version, that will probably come later and be called a 780MX or 880M

edit; review of the 680MX - yep, 10% faster than a 680M, 20% in a couple of games
