When Nazi Germany invaded Poland the Allies declared war on Germany.

However as Germany invaded Poland from the West, the Soviet Union invaded Poland from the East.

Why didn't the Allies declare war on the Soviets aswell?

Funny I was just reading about this. They say the West liberated Europe but really they only liberated half of it, and the other half became WORSE off.

Eisenhower was a big liberal and the western leaders were surrounded by communist sympathizers. Joe McCarthy was actually proven right recently when the US gov released a bunch files, the government and media was indeed infested with closet communists. Patton knew the threat and was assassinated.

There was a non aggression pact signed at the time of the invasion and a secret part of it that said Russia could get part of Poland so they just moved in a bit prematurely.

the pact was later revoked. there was a lot of mistrust between Stalin and Hitler. both were as nutty as each other.

Cos they wouldnt of been able to do anything about Russia to defend Poland in the east but they could to Germany, combined with the fact no one was ready for war.

There were volounteer British troops in the Russian Finland war i think...

I suppose it would have been a touch mental to declare war on the Soviets, especially as Uncle Joe wasn't a direct threat to France and the UK and Poland was a lost cause by then.

The Allies probably knew the Germans and the USSR would eventually come to blows, so why mess things up? Also, the British were probably worried the Soviets might invade India, if given the chance.

As for not pushing further east in '45 and kicking off World War 2.5... I think the Red Army would've steamrolled the Allied forces, especially under Eisenhower's workmanlike command.

Because they didn't care about Poland and didn't want to aggravate Soviets seen as they(allies) were preparing for round 2 against Germany,

Germany invaded the Whole of Poland and then pulled back once the Country was Conquered in accordance with the secret protocols (Which only became known after Germany's defeat in 1945 ) of the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact.

Technically the Soviet Union went into Polish Territory to protect Russian Citizens at the onset of World War 2.

We almost did, when the French and British sent an invasion force to Norway, we were to link up with Finland and support them in their war against the USSR.

No it did not invade that whole of the country or pull back. It invaded on Friday, September 1, 1939, got about half way across the country and stopped. On Sunday, September 17, the Soviets invaded Poland from the east without a formal declaration of war.

The Soviets then occupied the Polish territory assigned to it by the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact. Eleven days later the Germans and Soviets formally signed the German Soviet Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Demarcation. We all know what ensued when Germany later invaded Russia on June 22, 1941.

Hitler was not stupid, he was simply arrogant, many of his generals, thought he was an idiot though, but because most of those generals were from the Prussian Regime which valued loyalty and duty above all, they stayed out of it, there were however some attempts to end Hitler's life.

Soviet countries had over 27million deaths, i'd hardly say that's them smashing the German army. Had it not been for American lend-lease and British + American support in all likelihood the Germans could have defeated the soviet military and command, not necessarily its people.

I suggest you take a look at what happened when the soviet war machine tried to invade Finland in 1940. Didn't turn out too well...

Had Hitler not been such a pompous twit and actually listened to his generals the war could have had a very different outcome. It didn't help that at the time they were also bogged down in the Med which diverted much needed resources.

Lend lease was less than 15% of Soviet tanks, ammunition, trucks etc. It was helpful, but to say they would have been defeated without it is something of a stretch.

However 80% of all German casualties of WWII were suffered on the Eastern Front, so to say this was the decisive theatre of Germanies war is not so much of an exaggeration.
