Nazi and Soviet invasion of Poland. Why didn't the Allies declare war on the Soviet Union?

We held out as best we could and attacked in areas such as the deserts in afrika etc.

Could we have had held out indefinitely without the Germans going into Russia? No. Could we ever have manufactured a counterattack? Not without the USA and Germans fighting on two fronts.

Could we oppose Russia militarily after the fall of Germany to protect our pact buddies, the Polish? No. Could we have asserted political pressure yes. Would it have achieved anything - probably not.

But in truth we did let the polish bleed despite our promises to them before the break out of ww2. We shafted them to begin with and in the end. Horrible.

When Nazi Germany invaded Poland the Allies declared war on Germany.

However as Germany invaded Poland from the West, the Soviet Union invaded Poland from the East.

Why didn't the Allies declare war on the Soviets aswell?

I think I remember reading that the powers at the time thought the allies should attacked the soviet union just as the war ended ...
