Need help deciding on equipment for weight loss

Do you understand peoples points though Easy? Unless he weighs 40kg, eating 800 cals PLUS doing all that HiiT really is not going to help anyone unless theres some extreme circumstance anyone can enlighten me to?

And the cals for water? Water is water, you probably burn more calories peeing it out.

Yes. PS has not been 100% steadfast in this thread.

Stay away from carbs then put carbs in my smoothie....etc...

Just take on the advice you can and stick to it for a few months, otherwise your body will be having a fit anyway and be fluctuating all over the place weight wise.

Since when does sitting in a sauna burn calories?

so imagine if you have just ran for 45 minutes and then jumped straight into a hot environment, this is my routine cardio then sauna. your metabolism is already working at an increased rate so is your heart, breathing, etc. in this hot environment your blood pressure is increased, your body temperature rises and your body then has to actively work to cool it down. this is usually done by producing sweat. do you think it takes zero calories to sweat?

the same way standing in a freezer would burn more calories, your body has to work harder in order to stay warm.

seriously people in here think they know it all, when i usually correct them they usually forget the times i was right, like this one for example.

yes a lot of the weight lost is water weight and that will go back on, in fact it never really comes off in the first place, i usually drink water in, before and/or after the sauna. i am not using it to lose water weight.

the process of sweating uses calories up, the same your breathing uses calories, in fact any process within the body uses calories up, most of them are very small amounts this is why people burn calories whilst they are sleeping, because they are still alive and their body is still working away. the increased blood pressure within a sauna makes your heart work harder, meaning again more calories are used. your breathing is also increased within a sauna, again this has an effect.

these calories are usually insignificant, but my routine is usually worked around the sauna session in order to maximise the benefits.

so for instance i will also have fasted, so imagine a person who has no glycogen, has just done some intense cardio and is now in a 85 degrees celcius room, is he or is he not going to burn more calories than if he was sitting at home on the couch having sat there all day whilst eating food and doing zero exercise?

i do this as an "extra" sure if i was to focus my whole routine on just sitting in a sauna the calories burnt would be insignificant, but that is not what i am doing.

also as i stated above the water i drink is strathmore flavoured water, 1.5 litre bottles with no added sugar and does not contain that god awful sweetener aspartame.

i also sometimes drink asda's own make flavoured no added sugar water, again this also contains some calories. its usually around 10 calories per litre or thereabouts.

volvic also do a flavoured no added sugar water, its the one with the blue lids, i also sometimes buy this and again it also contains calories, again usually around 10 calories per litre.

You do burn calories in a sauna. But it's critical to keep hydrated and your electrolytes up as you lose most of this, and that's more dangerous. Your body is working to keep your body cool and sweat - your heart rate increases and your metabolism works to try and keep the body cool. It's not the best way to lose calories, it's better to stand in a cold environment IMO - but yes, saunas do burn calories.

i dont know about you but i prefer sitting in a sauna than standing in a chiller tbh.

do you know the actual amount of calories used up or are they impossible to calculate as it depends on the person?

i have always imagined my 10-20 minute stints burn approx 50 calories imo, so not a huge amount, but i am not doing it alone, i do it after my proper calorie burn which is cardio. that extra 50 calories helps over the week when they all start to add up.

I stand corrected. You learn something new every day.

that's because a lot of stuff is usually spouted about how all the "weight" is put back on, all of the people talking about sauna's focus on water lost, they never stop and think about the for that water to leave the body their is a process in place which is burning calories.

most people cannot sit in a sauna for longer than 10 minutes, it's not as if your sitting at home watching tv, your body is put in a really stressful condition.

this is why i drink a pint of water before i walk into the sauna, the people doing it for water weight reduction are clueless.

My thinking was actually along the lines of sweating being a result of symapthetic nervous system stimulation, which among other things causes peripheral vasodilation and sweating. I thought about it but couldn't see any part of the process where a significant amount of atp is being used.

That's because it's not. The amount of kcals above baseline that sitting in a sauna will burn is basically nothing, it's not a fat loss technique in any way, but by all means sit in one if it makes you feel better or you enjoy it.

This is getting ridiculous.

PS, I'm having a hard time believing you have any ability to retain muscle and lose bodyfat. You seem to love to talk a lot but say very little.

You are not helping anyone.

Totally agree.

There might be an unfortunate amount of nonsense in the thread, but there's also plenty of good advice, as long as easyrider feels it can help him there's no reason at all to close.

Simply not reading the thread will always remain an option for all.
