I'm looking at a 4 year old fiesta from a large dealer and it's listed the previous owners at 4.. It seems a bit excessive for a car of this age. Its just a normal zetec, 1.4L petrol, 32k miles. Would this put off anyone from buying it? I'd go for this one in particular but this one point has me hesitating slightly and i'm not sure why. Maybe just the fact theres been so many people for such a short period that it's likely to have been thrashed? What are your opinions, should i stay clear or take the plunge?

Would this put off anyone from buying it? ?

Probably. It's a fiesta so there's hundreds about. If it's a bargain compared with other fiestas of similar age/mileage then by all means take a look and check that it's sound. Otherwise, I'd look for a 1 or 2 owner example.

Learner drivers, have a cheap car for a year then upgrade once they have no points and can afford something bigger/better. My first car was a Nova 1.0l - 5 owners in 4 years. Drove it into the ground, literally. both rear spring mounts collapsed and the springs came up into the rear seat. Sold it for £70!

It wouldn't put me off, so long as it was relatively cheaper than other examples with less owners and I was intending on keeping it 3+ years.

It's a 1.4 fiesta, it's unlikely to have been thrashed. It's probably been used as a shopping trolley for a series of geriatrics who have taken turns to die.

With the amount of Fiestas about why buy one with that many owners in so few years unless it's dirt cheap.
You are taking a chance buying a second hand car so why increase the risk ? Don't make sense to me. I bought a 12 year old Focus earlier in the week, 2 previous owners & 57k up it with all the MOT's & paperwork, That's the sort of thing you want to take a punt at but in your case a 4 year old with no more than 2 owners.
As it's a Fiesta it will more than likely be owned for 2 year periods by new drivers to build no claims & then passed on.
Forget that one & find a better one for yourself. :)

3 of the 5 owners could be as follows :-

1st owner - dealer demonstrator
2nd owner - mum or dad buying for a son daughter
3rd owner - said son or daughter

however always assume its had at least 4 serious mechanical faults, and consequently dumped by previous owners and is going to be a money pit.

hope that helps :)

I bought a Bora TDI 5 years ago [4 years old at time] with 4 previous owners and 23k, never missed a beat in my ownership, use your judgement and unless its going cheap there are plenty others

It could be lots of things.

It's also a Fiesta, of which there are many the same. So why bother thinking about it?

jeez man what is your problem ?, I highlighted both ends of the scale and even posted my experience of a high previous owner car

why do you persist in trying to dominate every thread ?, and yet again partially quoting to make some kind of moot pathetic point

your words of wisdom are appreciated, you conveyance method in lots of cases is not.

I wonder if you can resist the temptation to reply as per ususal

Eh!? Problem? No problem, we are talking about a used Fiesta thats all?

Trouble is you've absolutely no way of knowing which end of the scale it is, especially if the car is at a dealer so you cant speak to the previous owner. With a car as popular as a Fiesta, why think about it?

Whereas 'jeez man what is your problem' was totally proportional, right? :p I have absolutely no idea why you took that so personally!

Of course not :p
