Apprenticeship vacancies

As someone who is currently training an apprentice, I can assure you he doesn't justify the work for a full wage - this is not meant in a negative way, he simply doesn't have the experience for it - we've all got to learn somewhere. He's getting valuable experience from it, but in terms of the company getting "free work" or whatever you want to call it, it's quite the opposite, I'm having to do extra hours and take time off my actual work in order to plan things for him to do and train him. If we were paying him a full wage on top of this, we just wouldn't be doing it at all.
This pretty much sums it up, the apprentice we had to get rid off may have cost us less than minimum wage but he was slowing down an engineer we charge £17 an hour for by 50%, so the apprentice was effectively costing us >2x the minimum wage, you cannot sustain that without grants/sponsership.

I get paid a very reasonable salary on my apprentice (Basically as a full time employee) + After getting my Level 4, I get a degree paid for me this is on top of £10k+ training courses/client site training.
The whole "You get paid a low salary cause you are paid to learn" is complete BS. The companies pay you low because they legally can, there's no more to it. All this £92 a week is a joke and has nothing to do with them training you, they can just make money off what the government fund for your apprenticeship and pay you the bare minimum.
This is of course company dependent, but some big companies, they could be offering so much more but they don't. Smaller companies I understand there is a slight struggle with funding/training.

Apprenticeships are typically associated with some form of NVQ. I’m actually an NVQ assessor and mentor.
If i were you i'd go down the uni route.... NVQ is a good thing to have, you’ll gain an NVQ level 2/3 ICT which will be office and basic network competent. You may, if your lucky go onto NVQ 4. Its hard to get this as usually at that point you have to be employed status and have some form of Management/ responsibility in order to complete the units. However truth be told ICT these days is so advanced, the type of job/pay scale for that type of work any body can apply so long as they’re competent.

Explain why a company would pay a full wage for someone who couldn't do the job?
School/College give you £0 for learning, Universitys expect you to pay them to learn, yet all of a sudden companies offer to pay you money to learn at their expense and its a crime? lol.
Here's how it works: The companies pay you less because you cost them money its that simple. You can't charge a client for an apprentice because as far as their concerned they are paying for work to be done, not for the person doing it to teach people on their time, not only this but in addition to not being able to charge for the apprentice, the apprentice slows down the skilled worker reducing the amount of work they can do (while their wage remains constant).

I've been an Apprentice for around 18 months now and am being paid well over minimum wage and have been since I started.
I'm training to be a Software Developer, my company paid me a salary while sending me on a technical training course where I picked up basic development skills and im now working on a client site as a developer generating them income.
They are investing. It's rare a graduate would leave University with all the skills required to walk straight into a new job, sit down and start working like everyone else from day one. Training apprentices in the areas they currently need or more than likely, predict they will need in the future; with high incentives to attract a higher pool of candidates. Can work out a lot more cost effective to them than employing a group of graduates at a higher salary.
