Probably a daft question but I have an Asus Maximus Gene Z Gen 3 mobo and I just bought an Asus Maximus IV Extreme. Are the bios chips interchangeable?

Thanks

i doubt it, all different boards have different bios's usually

it might damage something I would want to risk it

Does this board have PCIe 3.0? I cant seem to find anything about it. Probably means it doesnt though

I didn't mean it to be sarcastic, but that's how much you'd see less than 1% from pcie2 to pcie3 speeds

Ah OK sorry mate. Thanks for the info.

My Maximus GeneZ Gen 3 board has been updated for Ivy Bridge where as the IV Extreme hasnt.

You need a Sandy bridge chip to update the board which I dont have. I was thinking of just swapping bios chips. But I knew it was a long shot so I went ahead and ordered another Bios chip like I did with the Gene-Z

The Gene-Z supports PCIe 3.0 where as the IV Extreme doesnt. I was just wondering if it would make much of a difference.

The reason I am changing boards is that the Gene-Z is an mATX board and as Im running SLi'd cards they get rather hot as the cards are nearly touching. But the IV extreme seems to have adequate spacing for the cards.

@ kpatm It should work fine if your running latest BIOS

@the op,the BIOS chip might have worked but its best not to risk it imo
