Hi I have plugged in my ATI and used a 2+6 pci e for the 8 pin socket and a 6 one for the 6 pin socket...

i am getting random temp spikes, and it is going up to 100c on load, im worried ive maybe done somethign wrong like pluged the 2+6 in wrong order (i.e. should the 2 go on left and 6 on right or vice versa

ive kept the case open incase of airflow and have no overclocks what so ever..

its gutting just want to play tomb raider :( without feeling im destorying my gpu

hoping someone can offer some advice during game of thrones :)

ne help would be massively appreciated :)

What's ATI?

The power cables won't be the cause of the issues you're seeing here.

100c on load is definitely not right. Do you have any case airflow?

It sounds like you've built your PC inside an oven.

The power leads are keyed to only fit one way.

What make card have you got and can you see what the fan speed is doing.

wondering what opens are its an old case (x blade) and cant really afford that at mo.

if its gpu ill rma at but not sure if its something ive done wrong.

It sounds like it's not got TIM on it or something (not your fault)...

Urmmm, when you're in-game, does the fan spin up at all?

fan kicks in, I tried it at maxed 100 and was still occurring the TIM actually couldn't be a bad shout as it doesn't cool down quick either.

the other thing is it seems to spike at idle..

all this for sim city and tomb raider! lol

It which case, it could very well be thermal paste related.

Have you felt the heatsink itself at various stages? That'd tell you roughly how well the heat is being transferred from the GPU to the heatsink while it's showing various temps.

Be careful about this though mate if your getting readings of 100c!

100c means the core, not the heatsink. A heatsink never gets close to the peak temperature of a chip if it's got fans pushing air over it.

You can still get a nasty little burn from the back side of the VRM's though if they're getting very hot :)
