So, I'm planning to take on HNC: Networking at City of Glasgow College and hopefully progress on further than HND.

Is this kind of career choice still in demand?

I would say yes but that's a very light qualification and like any job market at the moment it's difficult to get the first step in the door.

I would thoroughly research anything with any kind of placements as soon as you can :)

I would speak to the college and see if you can sign up for the HND with a placement module or year? If not, maybe speak to some Universities and see if they will let you into the degree/BSc after the HNC maybe? And sign up for one of them with a sandwich year.

I'm not sure about the other certificates, I'm more of a software/science guy :)

But OcUK should have more guys that can advise, worth sticking your nose in the servers and enterprises sub-forum to get an idea what the trends are and what kind of jobs guys do. I'm sure will be more replies here soon enough too.

Go for the HNC/HND/Top-up BSc approach for qualifications. At the same time work hard a getting suitably certified: N+, CCNA, CCNP. Work hard and you'll have a great career ahead of you...
