Hi guys,

My dads given me his old honda civic to use. I am happy with the car itself apart from the audio system which is ancient.

I have seen halfords selling lots of audio kit, is it easy to install for a n00b or should I pay their £30 charge for installation

Heres how it looks.

I have tried the tape adapters and radio transmitters and they are all crap tbh

Is that a civic from the 'rover' era. Looks ancient inside. Thats going to be pretty simple. Remove radio surround and then radio will be held in by a few screws. The new radio will come with a cage that you use instead of screwing it in like the old radio.

What are these radio keys?

I have literally had this car for a day now as mine to play with so not really clued up on it.

cheers

Radio keys will look something like this for that car

Can get them from eBay or halfords if your feeling in the mood to be ripped off, but i've always used some old wire or even small screwdrivers, a coat hanger is ideal but i've not seen a wire one in years now!

Then get an ISO adaptor from eBay or halfords again, which just converts the standard aftermarket stereo connector into the vehicle specific connector you'll pull out of the old stereo, whack it all back into the dash and job done unless you fancy a bangin' sub in the boot for some chavtastic 6x9's in the parcel shelf!

Just get four long thin torx/screw drivers of similar size and stick them all in. Pull facia towards you, if it feels like its going to give shove your fingers in the cassette slot and pull from there. Then get an adapter.

Not seen inside one of those things for years either.

Radio keys to remove the old unit, ISO adapter to fit new headunit, and for the head unit its self, get one of the Lidl Silvercrest ones. They are pretty good.

CD Player / USB / SD Card and bluetooth for hands free calling. All for about £30 :D

He said he wanted to upgrade his audio, not simply add more input options to a terrible internal amp.

That looks very much like the same as the inside of my wifes old Civic.

In that car the radio had been replaced with a Sony head unit with wizzy and flashy lights, sounded OK but still a bit muffly, if you know what I mean.
