Hello,

Not sure if there is a section of the forum for this kind of stuff, but I need help trying to find travel from Newcastle > London on the 1st June (need to arrive before 3pm). Also need a return on the following day (2/6/13).

Can also travel the day before as well (31/5/13).

Cheapest I have found is the MegaBus for £16 return, 7 hours of hell but cheap as chips!. Is there an alternative, I'm not sure I could handle the bus...?

Driving would cost me £120 in fuel for reference.

I had a quick look at trains, return from Newcastle to Kings Cross works out at around £120. Have you got a railcard at all?

Don't have a railcard no.

I probably should have said in the OP, it will be for 2 passengers too. I think driving is going to be the cheapest (except for the bus)...

Take the megabus. My experience of them has been very positive. Warm, clean, comfortable and they even have wifi and power sockets!

Have you ever done the 7 hour journey? I think it's going to be the cheapest option, but I wouldn't mind paying extra for the train for a 3 hour journey instead...

Nice to know they have WiFi! I'll need something to keep me entertained for the journey :p

Spend £16 on the Megabus and then another £5 on some sort of narcotic/strong alcohol to render you unconscious for 7 hours. :)

I've done a 10 hour Megabus (London - Brussels), albeit with an hour or so off the bus on the ferry. Wasn't too bad except for the journey back where we got hassled in customs as the bus had originated in Amsterdam.

I've worked out that even with the Megabus being £16 return, I would have to pay for an extra night hotel. Which makes the overall saving by going with the bus as opposed to the car at £10 each!

I'd rather drive!

Yes, I average about 30-32mpg on the motorway sticking at 70mph...

do you have somewhere to park the car if you drive to london? that might be an extra cost that you haven't factored in
