Normal behaviour for X58 Classified?

Hi all,

I have an EVGA X58 Classified 3X motherboard which is starting in a slightly hesitant fashion - the first time I turn the PSU, then push the power button, the board comes on, then restarts once (goes off and comes back on), then cycles through f3 and f6 a few times, then posts. After that, every time I start it up it cycles through f3 and f6 a few times and then posts.

I haven't had a no-post from it yet.

Is this normal behaviour or is the board on the way out? (it is second hand)

Cheers

Hi Dave, this is not a normal behaviour for the board. Did you already proof if the BIOS do still have all settings you have done saved or if those get lost? Are you able to test a different battery in the board? You can try to raise the ICH10 Voltage and the Voltage for the RAM a little bit if this will make the process more stable.

Cheers

It does seem to be saving the BIOS settings. I checked the voltages and altered the ones in the ICH bit to the first green coloured setting. I'm not sure what the green and red means, but all three settings were substantially below the green previously. That cured the restart hiccup but didn't cure the cycling of the F3 and F6, except on a restart, where it no longer cycles. The RAM was also set to 1.5V when it is 1.65V RAM, but altering that didn't seem to do anything.

Was the BIOS automatically setting the voltage out of spec?

Sounds similair to what happened on an asus board i had. When turned off at the wall or the psu switch. When turned on and powered up via the case power button. It would perform a similair boot sequence. According to asus this was perfectly normal. Shutting down via start but leaving the system powered on at the wall/psu switch lead to a normal boot when switched back on.

Could I have a comment on the voltages thing?

It is normal for most X58 boards I have tested from a range of manufacturers. I would not worry about it. Its working!!!

Few screenshots from when i had my asus p6t deluxe v2 with an i7 920 DO.

Only ever changed ICH and IOH, rest on auto. Those settings i used for months without issue. Prime/ibt stable and many hours of gaming.
