Do you stereotype?

Yes I do.

And I don't do the usual trendy thing of recognising I've stereotyped, feel guilty and then consciously act against it.

I just reserve judgement usually til the situation has passed.

Eg if there are some aggressive, swearing black youths ahead, I'm going to stereotype them as scum and will do so til they apologise for being in the way/get out of the way without comment or hassle. After that I'll say "that stereotype was unfair but it kept me alert".

Or more likely.

"bloody swine"

;) ;p

Yes, I stereotype all the time. And I'm right all the time.

Do I discriminate or treat anyone with less respect due to these stereotypes? No.

I stereotype terrorist bombings to be religiously motivated. I.e. the Boston marathon backpackers. It couldn't have been the IRA, so only one thing left - radical Muslims in their own twisted interpretation of the Qur'an!

Yep!

Since I have decided I am "Busy" whenever somebody living in a mobile home/caravan park phones, I have had a lot less bad debts!

Bottom line, Pragmatism trumps ideology!

(It is a shame really, when I was younger and rather more naive I tried to work on the basis of preferring to be ripped off from time time rather than treating everybody (or at least certain stereotypes) as being suspect. Trouble is, I cannot afford to do it any more! there are simply too many ***** out there. And unfortunately they DO tend to conform to certain stereotypes!)

I stereotype to some extent because it is an logical (albeit not always correct) thing for sentient beings to do - we use information gleaned from previous experiences to predict how things could play out in the future.

As someone else pointed out, I don't think it is a massive issue if I'm not actively disrespecting people on that basis. It's more a case of, based on my experience I believe that I will be less happy living next to certain types of property, so I choose not to live by them.
