Anyone else not wear a watch?

I posted this in the watch thread in the past so here it is again. I had a Timex Expedition when I was a young teen and then lost it /somewhere/. Shortly after Mobiles started becoming the norm and from then on I didn’t care to wear one ever again until recently when I bought 2 in one month then chopped and changed for better ones.

I think James May explains it well:

I don't wear one myself.

And a car is for going from A to B as efficiently/reliably as possible in my eyes.

I can sort of see where James May is coming from with his love of micro engineering but on the other hand the true engineer would love the simplicity and inherent reliability of the digital watch over the complex design.

But on the other side a good quality self winding movement is more likely to outlast a digital watch!

Plus it's cooler, like kind of steampunk/retro in a digital world.

There will always be those of us who prefer a taste of analogue in this day and age though. From car manual gearboxes to analogue audio in music over digital and beyond :) It's that mechanical connection/feeling.

I can agree with that, I feel it for some things and not others myself. It is always nice to have something made out of solid metal than a piece of flimsy plastic.

You sir should not step into the mobiles forum in any thread Samsung related :D

I wore one all through school until I was around 12, stopped for about four years and started wearing one again at 16. Haven't stopped wearing a watch since, feel naked without it. Certainly not a 70% fashion statement for me (although I appreciate a good looking watch), I'd say it's pretty much split down the middle for me. I do use it every day at least ten times for the intended purpose.

Despite the mobile phone argument, I still find it so much easier just to look down at my watch rather than look press the button on my iPhone.

Rarely wear a watch, never at work (where I've broken plenty in the past!)
Not to mention my phone has a clock, as does my car and indeed my truck (in which I work)

On the few occasions I wear my watch if out and about, the first thing I do once home is take it off again.

I've worn one for years. I did go through a phase where I figured I had no need for one because my phone tells the time but it used to irk me having to get my phone out every time I wanted to check the time. I find it much easier just glancing at my wrist.

I also agree that it is a fashion accessory. I genuinely believe that a smart watch with a suit/shirt and trousers can give more of a professional look which I think is quite a big thing in many companies/work environments. Likewise though, I wouldn't spend silly money on a watch either. £40 is probably my limit which I see as good value for money when you consider how long they generally last

I wore one when I was at school, then stopped. I started again about 7 years ago, 12 or so years later. Working from home requires a watch I find.

I have a number of watches but never wear any of them anymore.

I always have my phone on me or sitting at my work desk so don't really need a watch.

I think most people just wear them as a fashion piece rather than for time watching, there are so many clocks about you dont really need one on your arm to keep track of time.
