Hi all,

How much would you say would be a fair amount to fit a car radio (hyundai coupe). Now the one I want - JVC KD-SD80BT - I can fit the head unit myself, however the difficult bit is the mic which would need routing through the dash to a decent point possibly in front of the dashboard. I've had a quote from car audio centre for £60 which seems a bit much to me but having never paid for it to be done apart from a 206 at halfords years ago (£9.99!), I want to make sure its not a rip off.

Cheers

Seems excessive to run one cable. Can you not just thread it through to somewhere under the dashboard when you remove the old stereo, and then grab hold of the cable and route it to somewhere appropriate? Depends how proficient you are at doing things like this I guess.

Mics are best brought out the side of the dash, tucked behind the A pillar trim and then tucked under the headlining which is usually accessible where it touches the windscreen. It's usually easier to go along the passenger side because you can get behind or under the glovebox and there's no pedals in the way.

Last time I did one in a Mondeo, I don't think I even had to remove any trim. I took the glovebox out and everything was accessible.

Just do it yourself. If you can fit the stereo yourself, you'll be able to route the mic yourself.

Halfords fitting price at the moment is £29.99, depends which store you go to, but most should fit one that wasn't purchased in the store for that price too.

This.

You always learn something along the way as well.

"Oh I didn't know there was another fuse box there" sort of thing.

Always worried i'm going to break something though! (only car related, anything else i'm quite happy to take apart just to look at how it works then put it together again). Time to man up.

Yeh some plastic trim clips can be a pain, I can't recommend one of these enough:

Makes the clips much easier to remove, well does on my landy anyway.

Just ordered mine online, just search for 'trim removal tool'

I would imagine Halfrauds probably stock them though
