So the civic is away, its replacement is one of these:

Its rocking wheeltrims and has the luxury of electric windows and nothing else.

Costs about 2p a year to insure too which is a bonus. It's not for me though thankfully.

I'm now properly on the hunt for something, have decided to spend up to about 4k.

As the pug is so tiny mine ideally needs to have at least 4 seats, can be coupe through to estate I don't mind, a decent, characterful engine and be new enough to be moderately reliable as its a daily and it will ideally be rwd/awd I dont care if its ugly

Pretty much looks like ill be picking up a remapped wrx saloon/wagon. I'd much rather a prefacelift 330i/ci but after looking for a couple of months at the budget and higher I just can't find a car I'd be happy with within a couple of hundred miles.

Everything else I can think of is too old to be realistically run every day and a minefield at the money (civic type r), though I'm half considering another e36 and just spending less / accepting it'll have regular niggles

It keeps a certain someone happy therefore my life is easier - win win! Had some of the usual main dealer lies and nonsense with it right enough, these guys never learn

Will suit its purpose perfectly to be fair, running a few miles round town every day

St220 there's another potential if / when the inevitable fwd cars come into it

Yep had the diseasel, nothing wrong with the car itself it was a cracking example and for a run of the mill focus sized hatch I couldn't have asked for anything more.

We've moved, will need two cars for the winter ideally, not really doing the miles I used to, bored of the civic and I wanted something with a bit of power again anyway hence it was chopped in. The Mrs for whatever reason has always wanted one of these and tbh given the price difference between this and an example 5/6 years older was only about 2.5k I decided just to pick up a relatively new one.

My Mrs has an Aygo and it's exceptionally cheap motoring. I often use for it for my once a week 40 mile round trip into Birmingham and it's not an awful motor at all. It does get far too much bashing than it deserves.

In fact when it comes to motorway miles she soon zooms up to 80mph and stays there with relative ease. You can't hear the person next to you all that well, I admit, but sometimes this can be viewed upon as a bonus. It is fun flying past people who are clearly trying to max out the MPG's of their diesel saloon/hatchback whilst I am still getting 55mpg<

There was some one off mid engined aygo at one point I seem to recall.

Quite fun to abuse and as mentioned it can't go quick enough to get you into any sort of trouble. A bit roly poly mind you

There's a turbo kit for them http://www.c1gti.co.uk/

I've seen that, kit seems pretty cheap but I bet insurance would be a killer. Since getting back on a bike I've been getting a bit bored with cars, and I've been toying with the idea of getting shot of the Civic and getting a C1, it would save quite a bit in fuel, insurance and tax costs.

We have a little 107 5 door for the wife to nip back and forth to work. It's not as bad as you would think on motorway journeys for instance. But no - I wouldn't own one as an 'only' car.

Cheap tax and running costs too. I filled the tank up in October 2011 and I think I've filled it back up again once since then. :p
