6970 in PCI 75 Watt

Hi All

Does anyone know if a 6970 lightening will work in a 75 watt PCI slot, when I installed it the server would not boot correctly but putting an old GTS250 in there worked fine.

The 6970 was working fine when I took it out of my PC.

Any ideas please?

All sizes of ×4 and ×8 PCI Express cards are allowed a maximum power consumption of 25 W. ... They can use up to 75 W (3.3 V/3 A + 12 V/5.5 A), though the specification demands that the higher-power configuration be used for graphics cards only, while cards of other purposes are to remain at 25 W.

It could be some sort of incompatibility, does your motherboard have the latest BIOS?

The PSU is 1100 watt, it has a couple of Xeon 56XX CPU's, 32 Gb ram, 4 SAS HDD's, DVD Writer, so that should be fine?

I will try a BIOS update as well
