Hey guys,

How does one source a transformer(?) to use GHD Straighteners(dont know if this is relevant) in the US? I remember a thread about a guy needing to transform a US Product into a UK Socket however I don't believe you need one for the US however best to check...

The person in question also wants to charge an iPhone, I'm guessing its as simple as buying a USB to US Socket adapter or buying one from a US apple store?

Check to see if the device is rated for 120V first of all, you may not need to buy a transformer, just an adapter.

If it's only rated for 240V than you'll need a transformer.

Er. Which way are you going, UK->US or US->UK

UK > US

If it is 240V how could one source a transformer and how much are they? The person in question is only going for a couple of weeks and doesn't really want to buy a new set of GHD's as to my understanding they are not cheap.

You'll struggle to get a cheap step down transformer that will handle the wattage pulled by a pair of straighteners I would imagine.
I'm pretty sure GHD's are 120/240v though so should be fine with just a plug adaptor.

edit: after a quick google they are indeed universal voltage.

From my (limited) experience i wouldn't have thought they were portable as the one i used to have was huge.

I'd be surprised if the GHD's weren't able to operate on 120V though. I think most things like that are.

My O/H has about 3 pairs of GHD straighteners, hers are all certainly 120v capable, she spends a lot of time in the US.

GHD straighteners actually use a US plug - I had to replace the cable on the mrs' one a couple of weeks ago. They just use a UK plug adapter.

I'm still awaiting an answer on what V they are :/

Don't have them with me so it's hard to check info right away.

Thanks guys :)

The ghd IV stylers and ghd Gold Series stylers have universal voltage so that you can use your styler in any country using a travel adaptor.
Model 3 and 3.1b stylers only work in countries where 220-240V power supply is available. We recommend you check the voltage available in your destination before you travel.

So 'GHD' isn't just a name for a special temp or something? It's a manufacturer? I'll stick with getting it checked on the Voltage.

Thanks :)

Nope they're a manufacturer and God forbid you try and buy a woman any other make of straighteners! :D

Yeah I did a Google search, £100? I guess this is women becoming sheep? Having to buy them because of the name?

That, and to be fair they are apparently very good and come with a lifetime guarantee.
So considering some days my gf never seems to stop straightening her hair it's not a bad deal.

Meh, I guess that's not so bad... Still wouldn't catch me buying them :P

Just realised the thread title, I'm blaming iOS

So, how would one access this? I'm nowhere close to them and have no idea how they look :D
