Hey all,

I want to sell my 4s and am wondering whether ebay is a major risk when selling such things? You seem to get more for the phone that way than you do from the recycle websites but is it worth the risk?

Which way would you go?

I want the S4 so the more money I get for it the better really!

Thanks :)

Personally, I would never sell anything on eBay. Let alone a phone that will sell for hundreds. Their policy towards sellers is very poor if you ask me.

If you sell on eBay take fees and your time and effort into account and maybe use a courier for delivery to cut down on your "lost in the post" risk, don't lie in your sales pitch and point out every dink or flaw, use photo's to show the niggles which will up your costs.

Alternatively assess your total costs and fees then try to sell it locally for a fair price based on that equation.

I sold my phone on gumtree meet the seller in person exchanged cash they could see the phone test it etc, no fees from ebay, and iphones sell well so no issue only been able to sell locally.

I don't think I'd want to risk ebay myself, and as mentioned remember to take the fees into account as they're fairly high.

Gumtree definitely sounds like a good option if you can find a local buyer.

If you decide to just sell it to one of the mobile recycle sites make sure you pick a well known one that has good reviews, rather than just whoever offers the most.

Selling my S3 to O2 recycle. Getting £227 for it and i could perhaps get near £300 selling it privately but after possible ebay fees, potential scammers e.t.c. i think its just worth sending it to O2 and having the money paid into my bank the same day.

Years ago, i always used to use eBay but these days use 'recycle' places.....never had an issue with any of them, personally, but I guess one needs to be a little careful which one they choose. Just got £167 for my HOX, and was happy with that :)

I ebay a lot of phones with the following stipulations -

Only verified pp, only ship to UK, min 5 (or 10 if high end phone) purchases, only UK buyers. No offers, no messing around, no I will no sell right now for a crappy offer.

I take about 5 photos including one with all the box items and say the IMEI can be provided on request although one of the images shows that the phone has signal and a news paper with the date in it (or equiv). I unlock all phones first.
