Whats your history of surgery?

Used to work with a girl who had that done. Went absolutely fine and the results were amazing!

As for me i've had my gallbladder whipped out, tonsils snaffled and a couple of cysts removed. It was fun to watch the last one!

I'd need a whole thread to go into detail about all the surgery I have had in the last 7 or so years.....

My last one was a partial gastrectomy a few months ago.

Mid 1990s - Adenoids out.
2003 - Extremely bad pilonidal sinus (would not wish this on anyone).
2009 - Keyhole surgery to fix a lose stomach valve and hiatus hernia (2 for 1 :p) to stop chronic heartburn.

In 1972 I had my appendix out.
In 1985 I had cartilages removed out of both knees.

How can you still walk? Or is that a dumb question?

Sweet. I've managed to scare myself silly reading about general anaethetics!

Here you've got a thread.

Unless you don't wish to share of course.

Looks like I'm going to have:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dentofacial_osteotomy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthognathic_surgery

Really bricking it after reading the potential side effects etc.

Still it's minor compared to some REAL stuff, so was just hoping to hear some stories.

What have you had done?

It is not minor.
They do saw through each side of your lower jaw completely. There is a chance (perhaps 5%) of a numb lip after.
Its usually wonderful work and great looking result either way.
Not going to make this thread medical.

I'd had nothing surgical done to me ever beyond routine dentistry.

They are all related to getting torn up a bit in the forces and all in all I have had about a dozen operations, some serious, some relatively minor all of which relate to that. The latest one was to remove the last bit of damage which was causing me some issues. I have one more to repair a back issue and then I should be all fixed up.

Hernia repair as a baby
A lump removed from the outside of my skull ~20 years old
Another hernia repair 2 years ago-ish.

The lump removal was obviously the scariest, waiting on the test results was murder.

Only time I have ever been under, had this done twice. First one was an emergency surgery as it was HUGE. A pack for 3 weeks job, 2 weeks off work, unable to even do anything for the first week, 2nd week still housebound.
Second time was this year and was to try and find the hair that was still causing it.

One out of each knee and they were totally removed.
Without Googling you have got several so removing one isn't that bad.
I still run nearly every day with no problems.

Ah fair fair. Still sounds nasty.

You sound like you know about it?

And yes, I'm losing some of my jaw. Correcting over 15mm which apparently is quite a lot?

Ouch. I'm guessing it was fairly nasty then. Still, sounds like you're on the mend. If you were lucky enough to avoid permanent disability then I'm sure you'll be grand.

1998 (L) ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) surgery
2003 (L) ankle surgery (brostrom repair)
2004 (L) ankle surgery again (first fix didn't work)

It was pretty bad in the beginning, but I was very lucky and other than a few minor issues I am fine now.
