Does UKIP have any longevity in politics?

I really hope and believe they will only grow in strength;

1. Nigel Farage compares very well to usual party leaders, he actually has some conviction, even cameron/milliband/clegg clearly dont even believe their own ****. He just seems like a normal human being, the others are literally alien to me and are PROVEN LIARS AGAIN AND AGAIN
2. I want out of the eu, to people who say we depend on eu economically, well how did uk survive so long before the eu even existed? Ironically this is scare tactics employed by elite but aparently ukip are the scaremongers...
3. They have common sense policy to immigration.
I really take offence to any suggestion i am racist because I believe the immigration in this country is out of control. There are so many unemployed in this country, we just plain and simple dont have enough jobs to accommodate increased number of unskilled labour workers. Its just a simple fact.
I am idealist i really watch the news and wish for a better world, there is so much misery in other countries and for many a better life can be found in the uk. But surely SURELY people can admit there has to be a limit to how much additional population any country can receive before it negatively impacts local economy. WHY IS IT RACIST TO THINK THIS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

It's not racist per se, but it does make you a ****ing moron whose main political worry is pabout a problem that doesn't exist.

As long as the main parties continue to skirt around the EU most definitely.

This Tory government is beating the disabled/unemployed with sticks for them to get back to work at a time when there is a job shortage and the EU are flooding the country with more workers from impoverished countries, who are in most cases happy to do a job for less pay because their living standards have previously been far lower.

The reason UKIP are becoming so popular is because the people are starting to see that non of the main parties want to do anything about the EU and are happy to see the British people suffer for the good of it, it's the same all across Europe with the political class putting the EU first over its own people.

If I could go to a wealthier country and earn 500% more money for cleaning toilets I'd be on the next aeroplane but as we're one of the wealthiest countries to begin with we're getting the short end of the stick in that our standard of living is being decreased so that we will eventually reach parity other poorer EU members.

+1 ;) certainly rattled a few on here, the Government are going to have to take ukip serious now.:D

Given UKIPs position on benefits, I am very suprised that you appear to be expressing support for them given your position in other threads. ..

I'm pretty sure, and no, I can't prove it, that the vote would overwhelmingly be for tighter controls and reduced random immigration. Not because we hate foreigners, but because the UK is fundamentally "full" with the same population as France in a country half the size.

What is your definition of "full" based on? We have a population density lower than Belgium and only slightly higher than Germany.

On your first point. yes Farage comes across as human but he is a slippery snake the same as the rest of them. Look at how he's wriggled about over flat tax this week. He doesn't have a workable policy, he doesn't know what's going on, but he's clever enough to bring the argument back to the EU and immigration every time. I agree that it's a failing of the other party leaders not to address him front on on other issues but it doesn't make him a genuinely nice guy, it just means he's better at "it" than they are!

On your second point, yes the UK did "survive" but it was also very nearly destroyed by two World Wars, not to mention the Napoleonic and Cold War. I think the major thing that people keep forgetting is that we haven't had a war in Europe for decades, something which had been unheard of for the last 1000 years. Now I know I can't prove that it is thanks to the EU but you can certainly argued that cooperation, understanding and economic unity has certainly played a part in ensuring peace.

Britain in the past also existed at a time when we had been the first to industrialise and the rest of the world was a basket case. Right now India and China are overtaking us and the BRIC countries aren't far behind. Britain and the individual countries in Europe just cannot stand alone.

Are you suggesting that if we left the EU, France, Germany, India or China might declare war on us?

just for those who haven't read it, search 'welfare to workfare' on the ukip website to find the pdf.

In times of economic uncertainty people tend to blame foreigners for the nation's problems. UKIP exists to validate this prejudice, hence its recent boost in the polls.

In times of prosperity UKIP is seen for what it really is: a tiny club for angry, insecure middle class white men with a worldview inherited from Britain's dark colonial past.

Says the guy in Australia.

If you're Australian by birth, your comment has next to no validity since you don't live here.

If you emigrated to Australia, you obviously don't have a clue what on Earth is happening in this country.

The UKIP is a chance for some genuine change to happen, whether it be that they get into power or whether they force others to be more genuine, I believe that their current success is a good thing.

At the moment we have a set of MP's who are frightenly removed from the realities of life and who do not cater to the needs of the nation, either now or beyond an election or two's time.

The demographic and actual population size of this country is changing enormously fast, and the rainbow and fairies dream of multiculturalism is just NOT working. Is that racist to say so? According to some yes.

We've got 63,000,000 people already in a very small geographical area, with an already huge diverse range of cultures which do NOT get on. The idea of differing groups assimilating as was originally the plan (though I think in hindsight, that the people who started the whole thing off, genuinely didn't care beyond economic thought), has just not happened.

Hell the Scottish might even want out, and if we can't even keep unified within our own geographical borders, then what hope do we have for a continuing stream of people, with absolutely NO interest in our culture/lifestyle/way of life, beyond the money they recieve.

Not every decision that can be made has to be purely on economics. I'm of the opinion that Britain has a lot to offer the world, but we're going about it the wrong way by trying to remain a global power. We need to make some tough decisions that might lead to tough times (and will probably hopefully see a load of people leave), but will leave Britain streamlined, lean and ready to present an educated unified nation who will lead in a knowledge led worldwide economy.

On the flipside, do you know how little consumer protection a consumer has buying from a company in Dubai compared to one in France?

This is particularly ironic given your next comment..

How are non working adults able to come over and immediatly have free access to our benefits system?

On the contrary there are (Were) a lot of architects in Dubai looking to source the best building materials from around the world, its just the red tape involved with transporting it there is a lot easier than transporting across Europe.

EU nationals have to prove 3 months of work to be able to live here then its open season especially if they suddenly "lose" their job and they have families.....

Xenophobia is the irrational fear of the foreign or the unknown..... After 10 years of Labour we know exactly what to expect, so its hardly Xenophobia now is it?

I'm aware of their position on welfare, something to work on, and I don't seriously for one minute expect ukip to win the next election, but by the time they are in with a real chance they'll have had a change of heart on Welfare.
Something has to be done on immigrants we can't sustain or continue to allow the flood gates to be left open. What makes you think i'd support ukip? I happen to agree partly in what they say and it's this I hope the Government will sit up and take notice, as for their current position on welfare they don't stand a dogs chance for my vote.

If you have ever lived outside of the EU you should know that the UK is packed tighter then sardines in a can.

so you are both fiscally and socially authoritarian. Nice combination in terms of history. You do realise there is a party that shares your view, although the bnp is not as popular as they once were...

Ukip's social position means I could never support them, even if I agree with their fiscally liberal economic position.

You can keep throwing insults it says more about you than me. This 'problem that doesnt exist', well you can believe what you want, but please deny to me the present statistics on un-employment, and then please deny to me that migrating workers for low-skilled jobs will compete with indigenous un-employed citizens.

Do we? I live in Newham and that's not what I see around me. People generally do get on just fine.

I also love the idea that people think that UKIP will spend all of this reclaimed EU money on the poor and pensioners. If they stick to their libertarian ideals, they won't. They'll give tax breaks to the better off with the money.

I live in Leicester and see this all the time, I've been told on a number of occasions I'm in the wrong area and told to **** off.

You're right on UKIP with the poor though, at the moment.

We're in a recession and that is why there are is high unemployment.

Hard times trigger unnecessary hate. Stop blaming immigration.
