hey guys,

so ive decided to build a new system as my 1156 socket will start to bottleneck when i add new GPUs.

in this spec ive decided to add a 960GB SSD as i would like to get rid of my noisy HDD and then mount the SSD behind the mobo tray.

i will be using my existing PSU,sound card and case as well as my headset KB and mouse

here is the spec:

im not getting the spec'd GPU's but i will be getting EVGA GTX 660 TI 3GB SUPERCLOCKED cards, i added these as they are the exact same price as the cards im looking at elsewhere (OCUK no longer have the cards i want)

i dont want to have AMD cards as i want Adaptive Vsync and i want smooth gameplay, dont care about super high FPS as long as its nice and smooth and plays well :)

my current case is a CM storm trooper and my PSU is a antec truepower 750w modular.

also i want to go with X79 as i would like to make use of the x16/x16 PCIE slots and also have a upgrade path.

so guys, what do you think, i very rarely have this money to spend on myself as having a partner a child drains your bank account!

cheers guys

I would seriously look at a 3930k for longevity, the IB-E version my be slightly faster but not enough to worry about. The 3930k is also easier to overclock than the 3820.

if that the case i may hold off the ssd for now, what about the 660 TI's in SLI?

im not going over 1080p res and have decided im staying single monitor, a 670 has maybe 5 FPS more at this res than the 660 TI

I would wait until the end of the month for the GTX 770/80 to launch to see what they do to the pricing of the other cards in NVidia's range.

If I had to go NVidia I would prefer the GTX 670 @1080p, but as I say wait to the end of the month as you may be able to pick up a bargain new or people selling their GTX 670s to switch to the new 7 series.

has anything official say they are being released this month and how much performance are we looking at?

im guessing its going to be like the fermi series was, about 10-15%?

Here is a link with the details

The GTX 780 is likely to be very expensive (it's a cut down Titan).

The GTX 770 will probably be a fair bit cheaper (it uses an enhanced version of the GK104 chip found in the GTX 680).

What the performance is, we will have to wait until the end of the month.

hmmmm

ill probably get a couple of 600 series cards when these are released, got a feeling they going to be very expensive :(

is anyone using gtx 660 ti 3gb in SLI and gtx 670 4gb in SLI?

what would you guys say about it? both worth looking at? and if you could go back and make a different decision, what would you do and why?

btw, im only looking at the EVGA ref coolers :)

I know you have been toying with an upgrade for a while. With Haswell due in a months time and with the Nvidia 700 series rumoured to be seen in May surely waiting a little longer won't hurt.

That said......

Socket 1150 can't offer you the Hexcore i7 ;) Having the better UP4 mobo also leaves you room to expand on the RAM capacity.

The 660Ti is a cutdown 670 and inturn the 670 is basically a cutdown 680 but they trimmed off very little. Think I'd rather have the 670 as external exhaust for SLI. If the 760TI is released I expect it will be similar to the 670, just depends on price.

The SSD is great and a reasonable size, there is a cashback offer to exploit. I'm pretty sure the CM Storm Trooper can take a 280mm rad, worth double checking but the bigger rad obviously means better cooling.

yeh i have been, i go to order then end up holding off as some more info gets released on newer components :D

i will wait for the 700 series then decide on the GPU side of things

X79 is the way im going, i already have a set of SP120's so i think im going with the 240mm rad (shame they dont do a SP140)

is the 670 worth an extra £140? am i looking at an extra 10fps at the most?

ill go for the 960GB SSD instead, one drive will be better for me, dont want HDD's no more, them days are finished lol :D
