Hi,

I am planning to build a computer with/for my daughter.

I have been looking at computer cases, specifically pink. There are 2 i have seen but the price is a bit off putting, although they are both really nice cases.

Lian Li PC-V352R Aluminium Cube Case

And the NZXT Phantom (can't seem to find the link on ocuk now, have they stopped selling them?)

I really like the the Lian Li case, but for a budget build it is a bit pricey, i want to do a fun little project and the hardware i have to put in it is fairly old so i'm thinking of buying a cheap case and spraying it pink instead :)

I was looking at a Zalman T1 Mini Tower Case (though i would prefer a windowed case) mainly because it's cheap but it looks like it will be easy to spray.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a low cost case, it needs to be matx, preferably be windowed and easy to customize :)

And do i need a specific type of spray paint or will some general purpose stuff do the job?

I sprayed my coolermaster white a while ago, i did 3 sides in painters-touch by rustoleum and one side in hammerite (because i ran out and didnt want to wait for another order, white is white), both are designed for metal, the painters touch went much further and was cheaper, both look as good as each other, any type of spray paint for metal will work though, just make sure you sand it down well with some fine grade wet and dry before starting.

Because the Lian li is aluminum wont you have to use an etch primer first? As normal paint does not bind with aluminum that well.

That'll depend on whether he's going back to the bare metal or just going over the top of the original finish. You're right though, an etch primer is required for bare aluminium. Or even better go for something a bit more modern like an epoxy primer, but that's going slightly outside of the realms of DIY.

A popular choice for pink is the Fiat colour Rosa, colour code 131. Here's one I prepared earlier :D

If you're doing the inside as well then I'd definitely recommend powercoat instead of paint. It's a much more effective way of painting complex 3D shapes due the the electrostatic charge attracting the powder to all surfaces, unlike paint which just goes where you point the gun :)

Well the lian Li is already pink and wouldn't need anything doing to it :)

I was thinking about powder coating as my company has some stuff done in black, i might give them a call and see if they can do pink.

Although the idea was to do it cheap so looking at the costs i may as well buy a pink case in the first place, although this won't be as fun :(
