Fitting a gigantic exhaust to a 3 or 4 cylinder car

I had a tubular manifold and full system on my prelude.
It sounded awesome. I had a bung in it for commuting and general driving. Still sounded good with it, but it sounded obscene without it :D
Still miss the sound!

My exhaust is quite raspy, quite loud and quite awesome.

Full custom stainless system including manifold and decat on an SR20DE engine.

Will get a video at somepoint.

I have a Honda civic with a loud exhaust.

I do not care on the slightest what other people think of me.

Find something worthwhile to complain about tbh

My ST has a loud exhaust, non-resonated Milltek with decat, it just has the back box and nothing else. It's on there because it frees up a lot of power from the engine and, doesn't sound chavvy and the noise isn't really anti-social unless I boot it. I like it because it actually has a note unlike the normal droning sound of a 1.0 engine labouring just to propel the car forward.

Hardly sounds like a trombone though

Some of the replies in this thread seem to have missed the point in the OP's post. We're not talking here about good exhaust systems going on cars. We're talking about bargain basement megaphones being fitted to any old thing, which is pretty disconnected.

People do it because they want a sporty sound but lack the money for a performance car or a properly made aftermarket exhaust system, so instead they just stick a universal backbox on (bought and fitted as quickly/cheaply as possible) and hope for the best without really putting much thought beyond that. For most people louder = sportier, the end.

I suspect some of the Corsa's running around with big exhausts are actually C20XE's or C20LET's.

Or a Z18XE or Z20LET.

I have a Corsa C 1.8 as a runaround with a loud exhaust but thats because it has a de-cat manifold and 2.5" Exhaust pipe which is needed for squeezing all the power out of it. Car's currently running 178bhp and is nippy as hell. :)

True. I think it mainly down to desperation. Wanting to stand out, get a "sport" sound on the cheap. Usually it is people who don't know any better, most people learn soon enough :)

I have an unsilenced and decatted exhaust but its still below 100db for track days. My induction is actually louder than my exhaust! Bangs and crackles can be heard from a mile away though :D

They are young and stupid. Also, they would dearly love to drive a fast car, but can't afford to. So they do something which they fondly imagine makes everyone else think that they are driving a fast car. For the purposes of this thinking, "everyone else" can be defined as all the other young and stupid people they know.

sounds like a touring car but the popping and banging would get on my nerves.

my brother had a remap on his 182 that made pop and bang all the time :(

Mine pops and bangs for fun, I love accelerating then lifting off as I go past people just to see them turn around and look (childish I know)

55bhp gain with just that? 123bhp standard.

He hasnt said what the rest of the mods are in fairness to him....could have cams, head work and throttle bodies as well as just the exhaust stuff; for all we know!

Be interested to see what mods it takes though, 55bhp is a big gain indeed from an engine like that
