So recently I purchased a Titan, was overwhelmed with buyers remorse as the performance just wasn't good enough for the price imho plus I wasn't gaming enough at the time due to work stuff to really justify that huge price tag. I sold the Titan and got my money back, and I was lucky and managed to bag a pair of GTX 660's for £200 total, performance is very nice, but these are really stop gap cards until the 'real' next gen arrives. Have a bit more spare time and enjoying gaming again. Obviously game hardware demands are gonna leap substantially with the release of next gen consoles..

So... With the GTX 780 due to launch this month, and this time based on the real deal high end GK110, would a GTX 780 be a decent buy or should I wait it out until AMD launch their HD 8000 series?

I don't want buy that something that I later regret lol :p

Opinions?

wait for the 700 series then make your choice (thats what im doing) i had my eyes on either the GTX 660 TI or 670 both Power Editions from MSI and also the ASUS DC II

i cant see the 700 series offering a lot more then the current 600 series anyway, but as its so close it wont hurt to see will it :D

If there is a gap of 6 months between nVidia and AMDs releases then in theory AMDs gains over previous generation should be higher to make up for the fact they were 6 months later to the market to allow them to recoup some market share.

Really though it will give nVidia the option to price highly being the fastest cards and only next generation card across the board just like AMD did at first with the 7900 series.

I would wait, infact thats what i am going to do.

After Nvidia is done AMD will try and come in at a lower price for better performance.

Yeah I think you guys are right, will wait it out until both camps show their new cards..

Anybody think AMD will really introduce 20nm GPU's this year? That would be worth waiting for !

Some are now saying the the GTX 700 series will be quickly replaced by Maxwell GPU's, after AMD launch their 20nm chips. I wander if the 700 series are really just a stopgap, especially with rumor of some of them being rebrands..

Either way, when the 20nm cards arrive will should be some awesome performance from either side, couple that with a 4930K or 4960x, good year to be a geek :D

For some people yes, if you play in one 1920x1080 60hz monitor.
For me no.. I use 3 monitors and 2x 7950 and I wish I had more :D
Even if not for triple screens, lots of people have already moved-on to either 1920 res 120Hz or 2560 res 60Hz- which in comparison the progress of the single GPU performance is falling behind.

You already made a mistake with the Titan, enjoy your gaming with your 660s until you actually NEED something would be my advice.

Why are you so desperate to leap back in when you're already enjoying good performance?

Play some games, forget about cards.

Titan was just way to expensive and still couldn't max a lot of games. Plus at the time my workload was quite extreme, didn't much time to chill and play games etc lol. Things aren't so hectic now.

I do agree with waiting until needing an upgrade, just interested by the new lot of cards, gets the enthusiast in me itching to see new stuff. Most likely I will wait it out until AMD drops new cards aswell.

Well, I definitely need some more GPU performance since switching my monitor to a 1440p one. My 480 is finally starting to show its age at this resolution. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the 7XX cards aren't obscenely priced.

Yeah 1440p is very demanding, not even the Titan could max a lot of stuff @ 1440p, hence my disappointment with it considering the price. For a card that powerful will probably be from the GTX 8XX Maxwell range tbh.

1440p does seem pretty demanding but my trusty old 480 is doing an ok job, although I'm having to turn down settings and switch off AA. I can imagine a 780 being plenty of power if rumours are true.
