The time has come for me to choose a first car.

If anyone remembers my thread about the MX-5 I wanted (still do) one, although the 2 seats might put it behind.

I have since been looking at Honda Civic's and 172s

I'm guessing most Japanese cars are built pretty solidly (reliability)

Question is.

Spec me a Car that you would buy for ~1.5-2000, just good options similar to the cars I said? Insurance isn't particularly expensive (to me anyway)

Shouldn't you get your test out of the way first?

Have you checked the insurance on your choices to see if they are feasible first cars, they all seem quite sporty.

I'm going to have to get one sooner or later, why not sooner so I can look up buying guides for the particular car and see if I should be wary for any potential problems. Rather than give me hassle going in with little knowledge of what I'm buying.

Insurance is 1150 for the MX-5 and the Civic is 950. Fully comp.

I'm happy to pay that, but the car choices should be retrospect.

I'd imagine insurance will be high on a Clio 172 if you've just passed your test. Make sure you're getting quotes for full licence and not provisional..

Heres my Idea,

The cheapest 1L-1.6L I can get my hands on, cheapo insurance.

The buy something nice when I can "drive".

I don't particularly want the ford. I think they are ugly.

Spec it guys.

Out of curiosity are these insurance premiums you're quoting TP, TPFT or fully comp? £1850 insurance for a 172 sounds incredibly low for a 17yo who's only just passed their test. In my past experience many insurance companies wouldn't touch you for this car, let alone for (only...?) £1850!

an MX-5 or civic i think are great choices for a first car, insurance sounds reasonable too.

I recently bought a Porsche 924 as a summer toy and i think that would have made a great first car. Mine is the 2.5 not the 2.0 and i actually prefer it to an MX5, the only issues is there are 100 good mx5's to ever 1 good 924.

Are these quotes with you as owner, policy holder and main driver?

Without coming off topic too much, i'm 20 with the policy in my name with my dad as an additional driver. All legit if thats what your asking..

I'm not going to question if the quotes are low...
