Why can people not take care in car parks!

Came back to my car on Friday evening after popping into Crystal Peaks to collect my shiny new Galaxy S4, upon approaching my car I notice a big white mark on the rear door, turns out some moron has whacked it with their door & took a chunk of paint off the size of a 5p.

Now I know my paintwork isn't perfect, it is a 200k 10 year old Mondeo TDCi afterall but I look after it.

On the way home I went straight to Halfords & picked up some supplies, 3 days later and a wasted Bank Holiday Monday spent respraying half of the rear door I had the door looking like this -

I had to share it as I am rather pleased with myself :D

People are scrotes, but I have to say hats off to you that's an excellent repair! Mind sharing how you did it?

Top work!

We take the mondeo to the shops specifically because we don't care if it gets whacked however :)

If I had the OPs paint skills it would be different.

Nice! I find that even when you park the furthest away from where any car is, hoping no one parks next to you there's always one person who will park right up next to you with minimal space! :@

Sanded the dent & about 1cm around it with 60 grit sand paper, then went down the rest of the door with 1200 or 1500 grit, can't remember.

Filled the dent & deep 60 grit scratches with bodyfiller, then smoothed off with 400grit, put another mega thin skim of filler over again to fill the sandpaper marks & then 1500 gritted the immediate area once dry to make smooth.

Chucked some old curtains over the car roof & glass to prevent overspray, put a couple of really light coats of white primer over an area about 4 -6 inches around the dent, left for an hour then put 3 coats of "Panther Black Metallic" over about half the door without masking anything off to make the blending in easier. At this point it still looked a mess and I was looking for a new door on e-bay.

Came back to it the next morning & clearcoated the door beyond where i'd painted black, put 3 coats on 15 mins apart. Now the repair looked decent!

Then the next day I sanded the door down again with 1200 grit, then polished the sanding marks back out with Autoglym Paint renovator & polished any overspray off the rear quarter at the same time whilst at it.

The Halfords paint is a damn good colourmatch though, I was really impressed considering it's metallic.

I parked up earlier, just myself in the entire car park. I leave the store and someone has parked next to me. WHY, WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT.

This is the reason I always where possible in car parks, straddle one of the white marker lines and take up two spaces.

Thanks for that, not quite sure I have the guts to do it but will bear in mind if I or a mate ever have a snotter we're happy to practice on :)

My logic was that if it comes out a mess I get a new door on e-bay & swap it over, thankfully it's come out OK and has therefore only cost me about £12. (already had some stuff in the garage though)

Nice result!

Loads of people only see their cars as tools to get from A to B and as such, don't treat them with any sort of respect or have pride in them. It's asking a bit much for them to extend such a courtesy to other people's property when they don't give a **** about their own.

I had someone open their door into my old Prelude while I was actually sitting in my car parked up in a car park. They seemed entirely unbothered by what they had done even when I got out and went to check for damage! "It's only a car", she said.

I went to Tesco the other day, hardly any cars in the car park. I parked with no cars around me. Went back to the car around 30 minutes later, found the drivers door scratched up (Probably someone squeezing past the car and their bag catching it or something), and on the passenger side, the door has a dent and paint transfer! (Along with the paint being taken off the bump strips). Cars had parked up on both sides.

This is why I will never own a half decent car!

I've got a scuff on the rear left bumper now, some idiot has obviously tried to park next to me and scraped their red car along my bumper, luckily most of it polished out but it's taken a bit of paint off.

Some peolpe are just so stupid/ignorant
