Helllooooo!

I have an iPad 2, about ten months old, and the home button has started to go a bit squishy. It is no longer nicely flush with the surrounding material and has lost its crispness. Is this just normal, and something to accept? Or should I be thinking about doing something to rectify it?

Try taking it in while it's still under warranty - does it still work or is it intermittent?

Is it normal? Well, in my experience I wouldn't say it was 'normal' but I've seen quite a few fail completely so it's certainly not unheard of.

Any more opinions on this are most appreciated. I'm approaching the end of the first year now so time is getting on, but I don't want to look like an idiot taking it into the shop because of what is a slight problem, but equally I don't want to miss out on a free repair!

This is also my first Apple item, so I don't know how about their lifespan, etc.

The build reliability is just like any other comparable gadget. White lie and tell them you have to press it a couple of times for it to respond occasionally.

Just thought I'd pop in an update in case anyone has a similar problem. I made a Genius Bar appointment and they simply swapped the unit today, giving me a brand new iPad2. It was rather simple.

Cause of this is the bracket on the underside of thr top glass. The bracket has the actual 'button' which aligns to the plastic you press. The bracket is held on by adhesive, over time the adhesive wears out and the brackets has movement.

Eventually it would have become so loose you could 'spin' the button. It will never become non functional though due to how it connects inside with a tight fit so is never a major cause for concern if it happens to anyone out of warranty.

Interesting, thanks.

By brand new that's a refurb isn't it?

Probably is a refurb, but it is certainly in factory-new condition as there's not a mark on it (exterior, anyway).
