I sit here in my office and count at least 10 morons a day with mobile phones in hand either talking or texting (head in lap). I find most of the guilty people are biyatches around 20 something. It really gets my goat up. No consideration for other people. I wish the law was MUCH harder on these idiots... four figure fines and at least 1 year bans.

+1. Every time i see somebody driving on the phone it makes my blood boil. Depending on the situation i'll make them aware of my feelings..

Angers me too. If I can afford to fit a hands free kit to my £2k Celica, you can afford to fit one to your new BMW (which probably has built in Bluetooth anyway). Especially van/lorry/taxi drivers, your job is to drive, why risk losing your job for a £50 hands free kit.

Saw a guy driving a digger through my street the other day as there are new houses being built at one end. Texting on his phone with both hands off the wheel while driving past a group of playing kids, he wasnt even looking forward.

It's even more annoying when they're holding the phone away from their face but it's on loudspeaker. No, bint! It's still a stupid idea!!

On my commute to work there is always a bit of a queue leading to a roundabout with another side road with an even bigger tailback, so I always try to let someone out in front of me. It REALLY grinds my gears when I notice (always too late alas) when said person is on their ******* phone and far to busy chatting to give me a wave to say thanks.

It did make me chuckle a while back while waiting for a bus on a 30 road with speed cameras when I spotted some chap texting away nary a care in the world and and far too involved for any boring stuff like watching his speed (or the road tbf). Didnt even notice the little flash of the speedtrap. A little bit of Karma. :)

My absolute pet hate. There is no excuse for it.

I was approaching a roundabout today, no one approaching from the right, Golf GTI approaching from the left.

The driver of the Golf was too engrossed in his phone conversation to notice me approaching from the right or acknowledge the roundabout in any way whatsoever; instead making a *right turn* right in front of me.

Certainly no need for it now as bluetooth kits are so cheap. Even my cheapo lidl silvercrest head unit has bluetooth and a mic for hands free calls :)

Do really think that using a phone handsfree makes any difference in terms of safety than holding it in your hand? It's the act of talking to someone else not in the car that's distracting, not holding a bit of plastic in your hand.

If your driving and say have 1 hand on the wheel compared to two? or your phone on loud speaker and you cant hold the wheel correctly. Yes. I would say it makes a rather large difference.

Last time I checked, I could easily turn the wheel with one hand.
I'm not condoning driving on the phone, but I think people get WAY too up in arms about it. I've seen plenty of worse driving without a phone than phone drivers. My experience of phone drivers is they will more often than not simply stick to their lane and speed and not make any moves, usually are hesitant at junctions/roundabouts.

Pretty much every accident where mobile phone use has been a factor has been down to driver inattention, not loss of control. The only reason hand-free was allowed by law is that it's almost impossible to spot from a passing police car. Since it can't be detected, it's silly to make it illegal.

Funny enough whilst watching breakfast TV this morning they were talking about rising the fine to £90... OMG I didn't realise the fine was so low. No wonder people are still doing it while there is no real deterrent.

I heard about this on the radio too, it apparently will include eating etc too.

I wonder how far this will go before people are removed from behind the wheel because we are too easily distracted?

I have a eco game integrated into my dash where I accumulate trees for driving economically. This updates in real time.

I can play this game with no threat from the law.

Unlucky phone drivers.

Better sue McDonalds then for encouraging people to "drive through". They might steal a sneaky chip out the bag and die on the way home....

No problem with holding the phone and driving, some people can do it, but most can't.

You also get 3 points though don't you? This would put me off more than the fine (plus the fact I'm not an idiot.)
