Behind you... Naked!
I am not going to lie, I am an AMD lover, and I always have been I got to admit.

The snag is, and lets be honest here, but Intel are seriously good.

The thing is, that as of yesterday, my sons are all on Intel I3, and my daughter an I7 ( the spoilt cow ) and previous to this, the boys on Q6600 and she on the AMD Phenom 2, while my own PCs are AMD Hex ( Linux ) AMD Phenom 2 and my main PC is an I7.

But recently I bought another AMD, this one an FX and also a new board and so, even though I kind of lose a tad of performance, its not enough to make me care, but at least I get to have AMD as my main PC again, thus allowing my Server to be the I7

The thign is, that its a load of rubbish.

No seriously... I have no end of issues installing Win7, some apps simply didnt like to run, I was getting error after error and after a 4th reinstall, I think its gone on, but hey, my Gigabit network is only showing up on this one as 10, the router is showing an orange light instead of green, many of the web pages simply dont display correctly either, and I have not been able to play any games for longer than about 10 minutes.
Its a load of old cood maharan.

The only bonus is that the Mobo will take up to 32GB and why the hell I will ever need that much, is bayond me, but sod it... Its now got 32GB... Cos I can. ( Ium still trying to justify why the hell my Folding Server even needs 16GB and 2x1TB in raid when all it does is fold and nothign else!

Ah... Its probably teething, and its a complex and fantastic looking BIOS and its possible that Im missing something but if this does get right in say a week, then Im going back to the Intel. At least thats NEVER given me a single hiccup since day 1

If your using an AMD 8 core, I would go for Windows 8, it plays much nicer with FX CPU's.

Those 8320 / 8350's are great bang for buck. If I didn't already have my main rig I would have gone for of them for sure. At the price they are now they are a steal :D

Are you really comparing the 3930k to the 8350? Shame.....

Actually, I was not specifically comparing them CPU v CPU because while the intel is faster, its only a few % faster... Not done benches, I dont go for them anymore, but in terms of roughly how long it takes me to do stuff, the intel is only about 5 to 10% faster but it cost me 3 times more... Id expect 3 times the performance.

But no, Im comparing the overall use of it.

Another prime example is that I have just shut her down and I had 101 updates to install, so, I went for a shower and I came back and it had only done 43 of them. I let it run its course and piddled about on the lappy instead, and it took about 2 hours to do them all. Its simply not responsive either, O&O15 for example simply takes far too long to show me the cluster map, while this has never happened on the intel. The LAN as I said is only at 10Mbit still and nothing I can do is helping that.

Wait.. what? Is this just a rant to say you don't like AMD? And that AMD broke your router?

Yes it IS just a rant, Im not going to pretend otherwise, but I sais nothing about my router being broke, other than the AMD wont access it any quicker than 10Mbit instead of 1000.

I do have a copy of Windows 8

I have to be honest but Id rather rub my tackle in honey and hump a bees nest to be honest.

Thats why its in the box on the shelf being ignored like the tory government ignores disabled people.

Maybe thats why the Mobo was so cheap perhaps?

Hell, I know Im only moaning because the Hex AMD in the Asus...Erm, M4A79XTD EVO Mobo is a wonderful and rock solid setup, but I just cannot get this one to be anything other than a ROPITA.

ADDITION : To be fair however, Its been great with Linux, as a second PC, but now that I am swapping them over and I want Windows on it, its only now that I am having the problems.

My FX setup is lightning fast .. It boots is seconds and runs everything faster than my current i5 and last AMD ....

Are you sure everything is setup correctly ?? The windows errors are not right and the slow mapping is not right either .... That needs looking at.

I'm assuming it's a normal windows 7 install ?? ( legit copy ) and you have the motherboard drivers installed and updated ??

I also have to say windows 8 is very smooth ... Just give it a few hours of playing around as once you get to grips with it you'll be sorted :)

Can't say I've had any problems with my 8350. It flew through the 100 odd updates.

I did have trouble with my first install of Windows 7 on the CPU but I put it down to one of those things and not cpu related and reinstalled and could not fault it since.

Basically, you havent set up your PC correctly and now trying to do the typical AMD sucks at everything compared to Intel statement. Heard it before, boring now.

/Thread. Go fix your pc.

Why do you have 24GB of RAM in an x79 motherboard. 2x8 and 2x4? Does that still run in quad channel? Or is that then dual channel.

Sounds more like motherboard issue to me. TBF a 'cheap' 790 chipset may be the problem with slow router throughput. It is very unlikely that it would be the FX8350 itself.

yeah it does sound like a motherboard issue, my amd needs a new motherboard as i cheaped out and didnt do my research to find out that my motherboard doesnt support an 8350 what is the make and model of your mobo?

I'm not sure this is an AMD rant, especially given he's just said that a 3930k is only 5-10% faster than an FX83XX lol.

The 8350 is an ok CPU but lets get real here, it's like comparing Usain Bolt to John Goodman.

Sounds like the op derped somewhere with his setup, or has a dodgy install of windows or even has dodgy parts and blames AMD for his ignorance towards the fact that it is most likely a user error.

Also, if you have and older than 9xx series Mobo, it is very likely you will have to update the BIOS to make it play well with the chip!
