GTX 780 or wait for AMD's HD 8000 series?

My 670 4gb is plenty for me on my 120 hertz benq. Maxes everything out, how someone can say your unhappy with the performance from a titan, mmm ok .And as for the new consoles being a substantial jump. They will still be at best low end pc quality, so hardly substantial. Maybe compared to the last gen consoles but thats about it, consoles are for kids.

Are you gaming at 1080P? A single Titan cannot max the more demanding games @ 1440P. That's why I was disappointed with it's performance considering the price, then realised that if I needed to go SLI with Titan's, I may as well go SLI with two lower cards and save myself a fortune.

It was nice to play with, but I never fully intended to keep it anyway, I sold it and got my money back. I am a system builder a lot of parts I play with end up in other peoples rigs.

I'm using two 660's that cost £200 for the pair, will use these until the next gen cards appear, hopefully offering better performance / value. If not I'll hold of until Maxwell / HD 9000 series.

miss out the HD 8000 and wait for the HD 9000, but I guess it all depends when you want to build a new rig.

OLED tv = new rig, but this might be 2 years off yet and my guess is the 7970 will still be ok in 2 years on 1080p only.

the 8000 isn't enough of a jump ahead, it might be better to upgrade every 2 generations

OLED is awesome tech, expensive though. Would love a 4K OLED Monitor :)

The new AMD cards are rumored to be HD 9000 series now, 'Volcanic Islands' on 20nm. It's def worth waiting until Nvidia and AMD get their new cards out. Have a feeling the Nvidia 700 series will serve as a short stepping stone refresh to Maxwell, possibly be replaced as soon as in 6 - 8 months with the Maxwell range..

Sony have 2 OLED 4K monitors coming out later this month
no idea on pricing yet though

You made the worst choice possible, not only did you buy a card you didn't need, that EVGA 670 is fugly. Now you're going to spend more money on a waterblock.

You bought an inferior card (less VRAM) with a crap reference cooler, which is ugly as sin (although beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess...).

I knew you were lost when you said 'i think i prefer the idea of a nvidia card too :P would look nicer in my computer too'...

Surely it is down to personal preference and experience? Because you don't like something, does it mean everyone has to dislike it?

No need for all these insults you keep giving people over the internet. EVGA are superb for warranty/water cooling and because he didn't buy a card you thought he should, you have a dig :(

Poor form.

cant see there being much different between 1080 and 1440. And how can i titan not max games out?

Here is my single Titan bench results in some of the more demanding games like Far Cry 3.

You can see that a Titan with an overclock still can't get 60fps in Far Cry 3 (all settings maxed of course). This is what I consider "Not maxing out games at 1080P".

If you'd actually read what I posted it might help you, I did say beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

The guy asked for help but he really didn't want any, he was going to buy the 670 because it 'looked nice in his computer' whatever he was advised, therefore he just wasted people's time.

At the end of the day he bought a pretty ugly 2nd hand card with only 2GB of VRAM, and is now going to spend even more money on a water block because the ref cooler is noisy and crap. He asked for help when his mind was already made up to buy NV come hell or high water, and he was given a better, cheaper, and newer option. His mistake is his own making, but he should not have wasted people's time.

No need to poke your nose in where it is not wanted, poor form....

You can't see it, ok..

I had a Titan... @ 1440P it wasn't enough. This is a statement not a question.

Hopefully Maxwell will bring single GPU's that truly can max the likes of Crysis 3 / Tomb Raider @ 1440p, new games circa 2014 may need even more power.

1080 = 2073600 pixels.

1440 = 3686400 pixels.

Big difference in graphics horsepower required.

Exactly :)

Full everything on my 1080 120 hertz monitor is what i see as maxing it out. I only use 1 monitor, And my 670 does 60 fps on every game at least with ease. I only use 1 monitor , plenty for me . Card is heavily overclocked

I don't need help thanks but the guy asked what our thoughts were. You gave yours, as well as Humbug (nothing wrong with that) but because he didn't do what you advised, you gave him a severe ticking off like he had been scrumping in your garden... Sometimes people will not always follow your 'expert' advice but no need to have a dig at him after the event.

No he didn't ask for help, he asked peoples thoughts. I don't think you understand the concept of forums. This one for example is a GPU section of a forum and one person saying "get 3GB of vram minimum" doesn't make it right or correct and to consider anyone who goes against what some advise as "wasting peoples time" is a joke tbh. What if 10 posters said "get a 670" and 10 said "get a 7950", would he have to buy both, so as not to waste 10 peoples time?

What resolution does Luke game at? What games does he play? What CPU is he using? Does he like PhysX games????

None of those questions were asked and again you consider him to waste peoples time? Poor show indeed.

No need to poke your nose in where it is not wanted, poor form....

[/QUOTE]

I wouldn't as a rule bother with these comments but to have a poke at someone because they didn't follow what you tell them is harsh and unfair. What makes you the resident expert who should be obeyed? Luke has made his choice and respect that choice.

I am wondering how much i need to put away for sept's release of Rome TW2 which is going to require a killer pc to have running with bells and whistles at 1440p.

You clearly do need help with your reading, I can't recall ever referring to myself as an 'expert' yet again, your comprehension fails you.

Semantics. But that didn't happen did it, stop making useless arguments.

He was the one asking for help, not me or anyone else, one would assume he wasn't too concerned about what effect res or physx has.

No need to poke your nose in where it is not wanted, poor form....

Yes you would, GPU's are your life.

Now stop poking your nose in where it is not wanted or required, and go and benchmark something, that'll make you feel better, no doubt.
