What do people use to insure 2 cars with one policy holder?

I've looked at Admiral Multi car but it doesn't beat the combined price of 2 separate quotes from separate companies.

Also, what about NCB? Are there ways to mirror it? Is it 'proper' NCB that you earn if you do so?

Found flux quite understandi g and offering a good discount when I had the 4mo and the lcr

Very keen to offer a discount for bei g an existing g customer but couldn't mirror no claims

The problem I have is the Clio, which is £lol at everyone other than Admiral Group.

But my second car is going to be a Mondeo and Admiral are bizzarely quite a bit more expensive than other places, even using the multi car discount.

Ive been with Admiral for about 5 years with 3 cars on a multicar.

This year they were a total of £800 but More Than quoted me £500.

They gave a small discount for more cars but the actual quotes with them were much cheaper than anyone else this year for some reason. Must be getting old.

Edit: Its also worth getting a quote from Elephant just to see the cost and letting Admiral know the difference if any. I found Elephant quotes cheaper even though they are the same group.

All the Admiral group companies come out within a few pounds of each other anyway.

Does anyone use someone that mirrors the NCB? How does that work? Is it like the 2nd driver NCB that some companies did that wasn't 'proper' NCB and could only be used by that company?

Skeeter - my mum uses Admiral Multicar to mirror NCB. It's not automatic though, you have to ask and they can potentially say no - although I'm not sure under which circumstances.

Benefit is, after the year is up, they'll give you NCB on both cars individually, which you can take away to use at other insurers. Useful if you have 5 years+, might make it worth paying more for Multicar for one year.

I did this, i had 6 years NCB iirc and they were able to mirror 2 of them onto my boring car, then once a year was past i was able to take it else where. Its worth phoning up the usual specalists, flux, greenlight, sky etc as some of them can mirror some of them can't

Admiral are very expensive for anything modified so i had to almost 'take the hit' in the first year declaring the mods i had, then once the year was up i was able to get a remap as my current insurer (greenlight) will let you go as nuts as you like!

Admiral (well, Bell) were the cheapest with the few mods I have on my Clio.

Greenlight will possibly mirror, but I'm not sure they would cover a Mundano? Bit boring for them.

Yeah you can't lose NCB on the one policy.... as you start off with none and hence its really expensive! No claims discounts can only be applied to one policy

I just added a car (Civic) to my Insight Sheilas Wheels policy, they said they could apply the full NCD to the second car and it only came in at £300 rather than the confused £700 quotes with 0NCB. Policy just came through and its eSure.

Is the extra car needing insuring now or can you start fresh with both? Loyalty does seem to help in this regard!

Greenlight are just a broker that specialises in performance cars they can insure anything within reason, in my experience they're usually really helpful and eager to insure other cars.

Just out of interest what is the justification for not being able to use your no claims on multiple policies?

Do they think the same person getting in a different car (even if identical model) loses all their years of driving experience?

Just a way to charge more £££ me thinks

Brentacre might be worth a bell. The general thing I've heard is insurers that mirror NCB, will only do it so long as there is no chance -both- cars can be on the road at the same time.

Edit: by on the road, I meant being driven

Insurance on the Clio is up on the 18th of this month. I have cancelled (stopped it from renewing) my policy with Bell so will be needing to insure the Clio with someone else soon to start on the 18th. I'm currently looking for a Mondeo. If I get one before then I should be able to start a multi car policy on the 18th, if I don't find one I will be starting a single policy with just the Clio and adding the Mondeo later.

I'm pretty sure Admiral multicar policies have independent NCB.

They do in terms of earning them. But you can't put your single cars worth of NCB on both cars at the start.

While realistically never likely to happen (both cars will be mine, my GF has her own), my GF will be named on both policies which means there is no way to guarantee both wont be driven at the same time.

In the past years elephant has been around £100 cheaper for me compared to my Admiral renewal and Ive always used the Elephant reference to get the price to match. Then they apply a multicar discount.

Struggled to get a decent quote on two cars so thats why I went for an old car on a classic policy, my Pug 205 GTI with GTI-6 engine conversion declared is £165 to insure a year. Declared that I have a main car insured for daily use, its not for commuting, garaged, and limited to 3k miles a year.

My MR2 renewal has just come through for this year at 350 quid too, the joys of getting old. Just over £500 for 2 cars insured :)
