Just applied for Admiral Insurance as a customer service advisor. I have a phone interview this week! Im just wondering what is the pay like for full time obviously? Any of you guys work in a call centre? Thoughts?

Is it a salary or hourly paid?

hourly paid i'd expect the min wage: £6.19 or something?

OR starter salary of £16k-17k before taxes.

Our call centre sales agents basic salary is £12,500 (for English Speakers) then there is a 2 fold un-capped bonus scheme, which is dependent on bookings and selling extra excess cover

There is also overtime available

When I was in the call centre I would take home £1,200 (average) per month and I wasnt really a big seller

The top sellers in our Call Centre have taken home between £30-£50k per year before now  But you have to be uber good for that

Edit: best thing to do (IMO) is decide if you can live on the basic. If so, go for it! Good luck :)

Call center jobs are usually paid higher than minimum wage. Or atleast the ones I see are, they sweeten the pot with as much as they can afford to.

On sight facilities, benefits and job advancement "for the right candidate"

I'd not be surprised if you'd pick up £8 per hour. plus 300 quid per month bonuses.

Thats pretty much standard in the Yorkshire area anyways.

Ye, I heard good things about Admiral Insurance call centre. How would I pick up bonuses if any as I would be working in the customer service dept meaning I wont be selling anything? How can I get bonuses from that when I wont really be selling?

Beating targets such as calls resolved per day and things like that I would imagine.

Oh... Odd for it not to say to be honest with you... Usually it would say something like

Salary: ££ per hour or ££ per week or ££ per month or negotiable

Strange ....

Quite a lot of adverts these days just have things like "Competitive salary"

After a brief honeymoon period expect the job to become soul destroyingly tedious. You'll have a numpty for a manager who has worked his/her way up from customer advisor and will be constantly nagging you about stupid targets.

The only positive will be lots of young birds to get stuck into. At the Christmas party especially so. ;)

Depends on the technical level involved a good bit - depending on the role anything from minimum wage upto somewhere around 18 grand a year.

It's unusual for places to advertise with a salary these days, because if they go too low they don't get the decent people applying and if they go high they end up with people too good for the job.

Better to decide on the strength of the applicant.

First-time-fixes, meeting your call time targets, etc.

I have interviews with a couple of call centre type places over the next few days, one offering £6.50/hr, the other £9.89. Guess which I'm hoping for :p

The support call centre I worked in was min wage, or near enough with no bonus. As a result they constantly lost people. Awful job that one. I'm sure they aren't all like that one is. There wasnt any selling or cold calling though so wasn't totally soul destroying.

I work in a debt collection call center and it's the worse job ever. Been there for 8 months now and I absolutley hate it. My advice, stay away from call centers or you will be utterly depressed. The pay is awful, very poor. I earn £12k.
