Flights to NY - inflation in a week?

Make sure to clear your internet cookies before you go back to the site to book the flights.

Not sure that all airlines (or even many) did this, but Ryanair were (famously?) caught out for using a system that automatically increased the flight price on each visit to the website, and it did so by using the tracking cookie dropped on your PC to count up your visits. The idea, of course, is to scare people into booking the flights "before they get any more expensive"!

What Fox said is only too true - prices can change wildly week on week for no apparent reason - I've booked last minute seats before at £286 when for the months before hand they've never been under £700 and vice versa seen last minute seats suddenly jump up by twice the price (I think sometimes due to big events, etc.).

Annoying really haha. As I just checked flights into Mumbai and a month ago they were coming in at around £600!! Now they are £340... Insane. I'm tempted to book that flight first haha. But that's not until November.

Oooooooooo, I could fly late night on Thursday... Late being 8pm... Thoughts? However, one hitch is I wouldn't leave work till 4:30, at Reading station for 5pm, then at Heathrow for half 6... Enough time or is a hour and a bit not enough for check in?

Flights are £485 then and saves me getting up at silly o'clock on Friday.

Matrix.itasiftware.com is another great resource for checking flight prices. I'd be happy with ~£400 return.

NYC flights have gone up quite a bit over the past couple of years.

BA did a promotion last month in which I managed to bag a return flight from Edinburgh to JFK for £391 (switch plane in LHR), though period of travel was confined to May.

You'll be hard pressed to get anything near £400 over june, july and august but I wouldn't expect them to go up. You#ll be looking at 450 - 500.

If I were you I'd try and get savings via cash-back sites.

Got £367 with Virgin for late May a few weeks ago.

It was cheaper to book via a USA site Orbitz.com they seem to have different prices then the UK version.

Use a decent credit card and you get a good exchange rate.

That isn't enough time to clear security etc etc for a transtlantic flight.

I will just leave work at 4, be at Heathrow by 5 latest. So yea, going for a Thursday night flight.

Paid around £475 to fly Fri 17th am so I could get there early as possible. Just a few days before, it was £50 less and annoyed I didn't buy it at the time. So, yes, they vary wildly but I was confined to specific flight days.
