Call centre job? Whats the pay like?

I had an enjoyable 5 year stint in a call centre. Basic pay was £18,500 which went up to £20,500 over the first 18 months, plus a maximum bonus of £3,500 per annum which was largely achievable.

There were times were I had bad days or bad weeks but soul destroying? No.

Not all call centre work is equal (and I'm continually amazed that people think it is)

Well this has proven conclusive for the OP :p

Just like any job pay will vary wildly dependent on the company and where you are based.

Aye, from my own limited observations of working in a call centre in a non-customer facing role it also depends if you are supporting or selling, if you'll be fielding support calls from people asking why they didn't get a meerkat then you'll be paid just enough to keep you coming back for more punishment, whereas if you are a good seller and find yourself moved into the arena of upselling etc then the bonuses you get for hitting targets can make it all very worthwhile.

Varies immenseley.

I worked for just over Minimum wage for a company's call centre.

Don't do it, It will ruin your life as its the most anti-social job and you will turn into a zombie.

The pay is complete ****. You cant work your way up at all.

Did call center work for 5 years, on a horrid wage stuck in an absolute soul-sucking skill trap. Never, ever again.

The best day of my life was walking out of that place for the last time.

I started where I am now as a Call Centre person. The wage was terrible for the time, but as I'm in a huge organisation it was more the chance to move around and upwards which appealed.

The work was very one dimensional and rigid, which was my major complaint. I made good friends on there as most people were youngish and pretty relaxed.

I wouldn't do it again, I couldn't afford to for starters, but I would recommend getting into an organisation at this level and working your way up.

I work at a call centre working as a customer advisor for one of the banks, I get a basic pay of £7.50 per hour, I get an extra 10-20 a week due to TSA through Manpower, so on my basic salary I get around about £241 a week take home, but usually get around 300-420 take home as there is overtime on tap where I work.

Sometimes I think £7.50 ain't enough, it may be a call centre job but it's not an easy job with all the targets and stuff you need to know and learn. I feel like the odd one out as I don't mind the work, the work place is a nice environment and the managers are all really good and want people to succeed.

We deal with all account queries, charges, identifying potential products that are beneficial to the customer, and the usual stuff, we do more than branch staff it seems as the branches just tell people to ring us up and we often get branch staff calling us up to ask questions.

its soul destroying repetitive work that leads to depression and long term problems mentally from lack of job satisfaction and repetition.

To summise:

1) Do the grunt work for x months and learn to sell
2) Start working those leads and become a player
3) ??????
4) Profit.

You know what? I think I just sold myself there.

Just started in one myself for one of the mobile network providers.

Basic is £15,700 per annum but uncapped bonuses with very achievable targets.

Most in my department come out with about 2-4k per month before tax. But the biggest achiever in the centre came out with £76k in one year a few years back apparantly.

many other benefits as well such as,

-free fibre optic broadband
-40% off mobile contract for 5 friends and family including yourself per year
-huge discounts off many brands and delerships (15% off brand new BMW's Audis etc)
-subsidised canteen and costa (although they have vending machines all over with great tea and coffee inside absolutely free)
-first day I started for example the team im going into was taken to the beach for 3 hours in the afternoon and the company paid for fish and chips and ice cream for everyone.
-free concierge service (say you want to post a letter or buy a christmas present while at work or pick up a prescription, shell go out and do this for you)
-Free platinum health insurance
-free life assurance
-free dental
-good pension scheme
-many incentives to win 50 inch 3d tvs etc which happened yesterday to a few employees.

and many many more.

I honestly thought it was too good to be true when i first started but after speaking one to one with the guys on the shop floor it seems to be completely true and everyone seems extremely happy to be there.

I guess it depends which company and what department but I went in fully expecting all the horror storys about call centres to be true and here it just does not seem the case. Good luck btw. :D

Do they wipe your arse for you as well when you got to the toilet?

So I just had the phone interview for Admiral as a customer service advisor and they said the position has been filled up already! But they did offer me another job (if I were to pass the phone interview etc) working in sales. The woman on the phone said 12500 a year which doesnt seem great but I'll obviously have to sell rather than give customer service

Then 5 minutes after Serco called me about a customer service position I applied for and I'm going to an assessment group interview wednesday. So sales in Admiral or a customer service advisor in Serco!!! Decisions decisions!!!
