Hi everyone,

I've recently built a gaming pc with a WF3 HD7950 but I'm RMA'ing it. I am being refunded and have the option to:

1. Get another 7950
2. Get a 7970

What would be better? I know the 7970 is the "better" card, but personal experience between the 2, what's better bang for buck. Does the 7970 OC well?

If you think 7950, which 7950? and same goes for 7970..

Thank you HEAPS!

7950 is the better bang for buck. At stock clocks 7970 is around 10-15% faster. At matched clocks that drops to around 5%. The 7970 will generally clock further, particualry on the memory. (silicone lottery permitting) The combined extra possible clocks of the 7970 will then possibly make it 10-15% faster than the 7950 presuming it clocks well.

TL : DR - If you want value for money get a 7950. If you want a cheaper route to xfire later get a 7950. If you like benchmarking or money is not an issue or you just want the faster single card get a 7970.

Awesome, I might just save the extra £80 or so. Can you suggest a 7950 card?

It's possible I would xfire, but not for a year or so.. and if so I would be water cooling, so the rear exhaust won't be necessary then right?

+1

most of 7950 can do 1100/1375.

The Ice-Q boost is a reference board, idk if the x2 is and afaik the sapphire one isn't if your wanting a full plate.

The Ice-Q boost is a fantastic card btw, I have 2 of them, had 7970/50 CrossFireX before theh 70 died, running them in games, clocked up, theres very little if anything to tell them apart.

The GHz version of the 7970 vary but my Gigabyte was stock at 1100/1500.
Now I am running my 2 HIS 7970's at 1100/1500 with less heat than my single GHz version.
My 2 HIS cards are only 925/1375 stock but they clock well, I am pretty impressed with them to be honest, the temps are great!
