Asus RT-N56U owners

So i plugged a hardrive into the router, was perfect.. Mkv etc played through my htc one and tv.. Then the server dissapeared after 10mins and wont work again.. Very confused! Is it because im running the above custom firmware? :/

Dunno odd. Always try a reset. Not much will be lost. My USB drive is mapped to all my computers / devices and been rock solid.

i need to add this... lost already

1- Assign a static IP to the Vodafone Sure Signal Device using the MAC Address on the back of the Sure Signal Device

2 - Open the following ports (Incoming & Outgoing) for the Sure Signal assigned IP Address:

TCP/IP and UDP - Port 50
Port 500 - UDP
Port 4500 - UDP
Port 123 ? TCP/IP and UDP

3- Make the Vodafone Sure Signal IP Visable

4- Please vefiry from your Service Provider that they are using PPPoA as authentication & not PPPoE as the Sure Signal is only supporting PPPoA authentication

I got random wifi issues with the 3rd party firmware :( I returned to the official one and its all good again.

i personally don't know how trustworthy those russian developers are, you would think asus a huge company would have better developers than some random russian's.

i would prefer if dd-wrt supported this router as they are much more reputable and have a better track record and i have a history with them.

people say this russian firmware adds more features, i personally cannot see any i would use. the stock firmware does everything i need flawlessly.

The USB drive works better with custom firmware for sure

again this is something i do not use, my pc is connected to my tv, so rather than copy to a usb drive and run it off a network i play directly from pc.

i can see how for others it would be beneficial.

imo the stock firmware has had regular updates, and it is the best stock firmware i have ever used. in fact the whole interface has changed since i have had the router.

i really like dd-wrt and wish this was supported but the only 3rd party seems to be the russian one, which i don't like the look of.

Seeing as I use a NAS, if this is one of the only benefits of the custom firmware, I will probably stick with the stock one too. Should be arriving tomorrow but could someone post the details of the most stable or recent stock firmware please?

I'm having pretty serious WiFi issues with this router. I've got the latest official firmware and I'm finding the WiFi extremely slow, regardless of distance from the router.

Not only is it slow but it seems unstable, my iPhone and Nexus tablet have issues connecting to the 2.4GHz frequency at times. Sometimes i'll have full bars of reception yet there will be no internet throughput.

Wired is perfect. Any thoughts?

After you flash a firmware update it is imperative that you reset to factory defaults. Even if this means losing all your settings. Settings cannot be transferred between firmwares.

I only have issues if i keep "dirty" flashing and not resetting to factory defaults in between.

hard reset and also try changing the wifi channel

I prefer the custom one. But the stock is fine. However if you have just purchased this update to the latest. As it has been updated a lot from the out the box

Haven't used mine yet, will do next week. Surprised how small it is.
