Germany - what's not to like?

I know Spanish, French and British landed and started colonies in the US, but ive never heard of the US being largely founded by Germans. Have you a source for this? Not having a go im genuinely interested as it goes against most of what I already thought I knew.

Edit - Whoop found it myself, Germantown Philadelphia and the 6million 48ers. The more you know!

It wasn't "founded" by Germans. There was however a lot of German emigration. Far more emigrated than from England. It's a bit like saying the iris founded America. Much of the emigration came relatively recently, long after the country became established.

How much is english used over there? I'm crap at learning new languages so it would be nice to have others that speak the lingo.

Most average Germans have a better grasp of English than some of the regulars here tbqf. Mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut but I got on fine for ~6 months staying in Essen. I did make the effort though, and from my experience German chicks really fancy a bit of British sausage

If I had my time again I'd travel Germany more thoroughly. And Italy. And Spain. Not France though

Even when Germans were communists themselves in East Germany, they were the best, most competent communists.

Great cars, the BEST beer, great music (kraftwerk), friendly people, good food, attractive women. I don't know why Germans get such a bad wrap? Germans are probably my favourite race, that's why I like America so much because contrary to British propaganda it was largely founded by GERMANS. It's the most under-rated country IMO, whereas England is the most over-rated.

Maybe it comes down to jealousy, that we all can't be Germans?

if I had to choose I would take number 2 please Cilla.

German beer is pants.
and there citys cant take a few bombs from our finest lancasters.

Other than that Fritz land is nice, with frendley people.

My heart has a special place for Germans. I met my wife at Oktoberfest in New Orleans. As you say kwerk, the amount of German descendants in the US is very high. All yout have to do is look at the common non-Jew surnames.

I love how open minded Germans are about sex.

It always amazes me how much this fantastic country of ours is taken for granted.

So many times I've heard " country xyz is so much better" after spending 5 minutes there with no real clue what is like to live there.

The grass is always greener. Especially when the women elsewhere have proper dental care in their formative years.

i lived in various places around germany from about 2 till around 9 years old it was for me a great place to grow up was very sad when my dad retired from the army. i have been back to hamburg few times to see old friends would love to have a reason to move there but misses and kids very happy here in wales

The foods rubbish, but I agree with everything else.

Never thought I would say this but I love Germany and would happily move their, though the 50% standard tax rate (iirc) is not nice! :p

Really? You've heard more about German women being hot than Italian? Okay...

Yes I have, what's wrong with that? It's not my fault I haven't heard much about Italians compared to Germans, especially seeing as I take German and not Italian

It's a nice country, not to keen on them as a people though.

Thats probably because i spend half of my working day liaising with them on the phone.
