EA get the exclusive Star Wars games licence from Disney

because SWTOR worked out so well...

seriously tho, KOTOR3 is the only thing that'd tempt me into buying another "EA" star wars game, still got a bitter taste in my mouth from sim city.

A business only interested in the commercialisation of its assets? Terrible.

Do you entirely miss the point often?

There are many ways they could go about this, personally, I think this is the wrong way.

Whoring out ones IP in the name of "commercialisation" is not always the best method to gain a return one would expect.

I would normally agree Gimpymoo but let's face it where Star Wars is concerned this moment has been and gone long ago, Lucas has been milking it since the 70s, Disney will just continue doing what he did but on a larger scale. It's not as if we've had a decent Star Wars game since oh I don't know... Kotor? 10 years ago so nobody should have any hopes about releases anyway.

Oh and...

EA are pretty much the biggest game company out there...When they offer to publish your game you know its going to sell a lot..Who else were they going to give it to? they probably offered them the most potential sales and the highest funding etc..

If they can revive that dead Starwars game that looked cool, then I'll be happy.
Don't care much for EA games, don't even like way Frostbite/Cry engine games look.

Its not completely terrible news, at least some company is now developing these games, whether or not they will end up being good is another question.

EA do **** up a lot, but they sometimes do make some decent games. Its not all doom and gloom. :p

I think thats only due to some Dev houses having some back bones but I think most dev's even the good ones will get sick of EA at some point and leave.

To be honest I'm hoping that kickstarter and crowd sourcing as a whole helps speed up the freeing of Dev's to pursue projects as the Dev's see them and not like publishers want.

I admit I did a small stint (5 weeks) at a dev house with Hasbro as the publisher, but that little bit of experience set me to disliking them as whole from then on and so far there is little to none in the industry that I have ever liked.

I admit Dev's can get lost in the vision and that can be dangerous but with a better house self control and crown sourced funding we can hopefully create games for gamers and not this cash cow culture that publishers seem to want.

I'm not against DLC, but I'm sick of them expecting to charge £5-10 for a set of maps that aren't in any remote way worth it.

EA is making the mistake I have been waiting for for quite some time.

They are heading into a diehard realm of fans, most of which are already disheartened by the prequels let alone any crappy incarnation of games that have come about (TOR COUGH TOR).

Hasten that death EA, hasten it good.

While EA is not exactly a great choice, Lucas Arts haven't been doing much themselves recently anyway. At least now we will get a core AAA release, the only problem it will probably be rushed and/or have a ridiculous amount of DLC (But to be honest most companies seem to be doing that any way).
