Can you guys tell me how to set up prime 95 properly since ive just finished installing my first water cooling loop i want to test it.

I have been running it as it came installed from installer and on my i5 3570k after an hour at 3.6 ghz (turbo mode should be 3.8 will have to set multipler i think lol)
core votage 1.08v (all i did with install went into bios loaded the f7 optimal settings) and booted and fired up and after an hour i have. confrimed with both HW monitor and real temp

highest 54 degress and lowest 44 this is pretty much average over the core and yes the 54 is the hottest core as im toldyou always get one core abit hotter but its not that much different from its nearest rival :)

you can run large fft's to get the cpu working hottish or a blend test to work cpu and memory

if your feeling brave you could do 5 runs of intel burn test maximum stress test, this will undoubtedly get the cpu the hottest

Agree about intel burn test, 10-20x imo.
Run all 3 Prime for 10 hrs, over 1 cycle.

Tested a system yesterday, Prime blend 18 hrs OK, Small fft failed after 7 hrs, Intel B T failed after a couple x
Increased V, 10x IBT OK, small fft 14 hrs passed.

prime testing is a load of ******** basically, all it means is your pc didn't burn out during an unnecessary test. If by any chance you use you PC to an extent that it strains the CPU the way prime does, then you're up to no good :p

is it advisable to leave the pc on overnight while running prime95?

Of course, those who say applications like Prime95 are dangerous are usually just justifying to themselves running with an unstable computer.

The only way Prime95/IBT etc are going to cause any damage is if the CPU/motherboard have insufficient cooling or there's an inherently faulty part on the motherboard that breaks faster when pushed.

thanks for the info.
i overclocked my cpu to 4GHz last night and ran prime95 overnight. when i got up this morning, 2 cores had stopped at 4 in the morning but the other two kept running. is that a sign that my overclock is unstable?
i jave also been running IBT since i got up and everything seems fine.

I have run my CPU at speeds up to 5.2ghz when benching so when I run it at it's normal 24/7 speed of 4.0ghz I think it's reasonable to say I am safe without running Prime95/IBT for hours. Having said that if people what to run these programs just to be sure I don't see a problem with that either.

What I do disagree with is running a CPU at a high overclock like 4.7 or 4.8ghz 24/7 when for the most part it is doing nothing that needs it.

This indicates instability in both cores, more voltage is required

I have not heard of chips destroyed in 'unnecessary test'.

If it keeps failing a test, then it is unreliable. I can run a lower voltage and live with it and most of the time will be fine but choose to have a thoroughly robust system. It is up to you........bmw, ferraris, toyota test their cars in the ice lakes in the arctic -40C.....how many get driven in the arctic circle? If it is reliable there, the tolerance margin for failure here is much larger ensuring more relability at -5C.

It is your system, up to you how you want to have it, better to have assurance it will stand the test. If it is is purely a hobby....it doesnt matter.

I do use my PC to almost the limit and have experienced crashes. 13+ programmes open now, not to mention 20+ instances of explorer open currently.

Go over to mersenneforum.org and tell them there all criminals.
Let me know when you do so I can follow the thread.
