Just Put a Deposit on This

Aye, security fix. It might be already done as part of BMWAUC. They are booking everything that goes in for a service in Swindon down for the fix still. Forgot to mention earlier, if it's rained recently and the car was outside - check the rear light clusters don't have water in them at the bottom. This affects many 35i's (rear bumper different to rest of range) and is a common warranty fix. While others have been more fortunate, I'm on light cluster pair number 3.

Put a fair few miles on a facelifted Z4 recently (a new sDrive18i... with the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine), was a very pleasant thing to live with. Very tempting! Not particularly sporting but just a gratifying overall package :)

Drove it this morning, loved it.
They wouldnt throw the wind deflector or anything else in, which I was pretty disappointed with, but I figured it wasn't worth cancelling the deal for updated maps and a wind deflector. I'm sure I can get them elsewhere cheaper. A WD on ebay is only about £150 anyway. Once I upgrade the speakers and get a decent alarm on it I'll be happy. They will be doing the security update though and I should hopefully be collecting it on Wednesday.

Do you really want to bodge another alarm in to it? Personally I'd just get GAP cover and don't worry about it.

You have to book it in for a 'fix'. Not sure what it is but I know it can be a wait.

IIRC on the E90, this wonderful "fix" that took them months to come up with was to disable the windows going down when you hold on the unlock door button on the fob. Nothing else. Therefore, this still doesn't protect the car against if someone smashes your driver window.

What sort of discount did you manage in the end?

£500 plus 1 extra year warranty. In all honesty I think I should have pushed for more. However, when you compare it to what else is on the market then I didn't really have much room to bargain.

That was a side effect of the fix, not the purpose of the fix IIRC?

Unfortunately not. It was the fix, however, to correct what i previously said, it was to prevent the windows rolling down when you put the key in the door lock, turn and hold it. Holding down the button from the fob will still roll down the windows.

I've read so many different things about this so called fix, I don't know what to believe, hence I'll be getting a new alarm and probably relocating the ODB port.

Honestly I don't think it's a commonly stolen car - hell it's not even a common car compared to the commonly nicked x5/high end 3&5 series that seemed to plague the pistonheads thread. You're much more likely to see vandalism than theft I'd wager, I don't see the Albanians requesting fast Z4s somehow :). There's a second part to the fix isn't there? They were jamming screwdrivers in the keyslot to active the window down feature and then ODB programming a blank key but I thought you now need a (legit) key in the ignition for the ECU to give out a new encryption key? Trying to find more on this but struggling :/ While I can understand you're worried about theft, if they really want it they will break into my house and threaten me with a knife - if they get into the car and it's got a second alarm I'd rather not face the prospect of them coming back for round 2.

The amp is located in different places for different sound packages just to pre-warn you - check out real OEM prior to any work.
