I finally got hold of a black megahalem but it's missing a good fan to finish off the aesthetics and acoustics. Is anyone running the new sp120 pwm quiet editions? How good is the quiet version - Any ticking at low rpms speeds?

The noiseblockers also seem like a sound choice but I've seen the odd post on here saying they tick :(.

I run the SP120 PWM high pressure versions, get these over the quiet edition, the only edition is the high pressure ones have a higher max RPM, both can be reduced down to the same minimum speed.

Can't hear any noise at low speeds or even medium speeds, only when they get 70%+ can I hear a noise at all.

I have just fitted 3 x SP120 PWM High performance along side my non PWM versions. When them running at their lowest using Asus Fan Xpert (735 rpm apparently) there is no clicking at all.

I own both of these and both make an annoying tick, however they do so at different ends of the scale, the noiseblockers tick at low speed and quieten up as speed increases, the SP120's are silent at low speed but tick as speed increases.

Between the two I think the SP120's are better as PWM fans speed up when needed, which is usually when something intensive is happening that for games will involve speakers/headset which will drown out the ticking with easy. By comparison the Noiseblockers low speed ticking annoyed me while just browsing this forum with my headset off *tick* *tick* *tick* urrgh...

Ah yeah that definitely clears things up for me! - the scenario outside of gaming is what I'm most concerned about as my ears would most definitely pick that up. Looks like I'll pick up 2x sp120 quiet pwm editions for the megahalem :). Cheers guys for the feedback.

I have a set of the non PWM SP120s and they don't make any ticking noises at all. They are pretty loud when on full speed, but with a fan controller - they are great. Maybe you could consider those instead?

EDIT: You don't need a CPU fan plugged in, it'll just warn you upon each boot.

Or if you want to go the non-PWM fan route but still want to control them by PWM. Tealc, a member on here builds a fantastic little PWM converter for running non-PWM fans on PWM.

I'm using one for the SP120 Performance fans fitted to my H100i. I've had it a good 8+ months and it's still going strong.

I received my dual set of corsair 120 quiet pwm fans - Aesthetics wise they look damn good on the megahalems but the sound coming from them is hardly smooth. Sounds very rough to me although at low rpms I can't hear it when my case is closed.

hmm yeah I'll have another look at the way my sp120s are mounted on my megahalem's - maybe the default clips are too tight or something? I dunno but they soundrough as hell to me :(.

I had a scythe kama flow pwm initially on the megahalem and that was smooth, just pure airflow at high rpm and silent at low rpms.
