Just a quick question, how much extra battery will a live wallpaper use up ?

Easy answer: try it.

If it's too much, stop using it.

It will vary from person to person based on how much time in a day it's active and visible.

There are video wall papers that only work when the screen is on.

Any live wallpaper worth its salt will only be in use when the launcher/lock screen is shown.

Personally I use this Wave wallpaper. I like a simple dark setup, though I quite like the quirkiness of that Paperland one though!

If they do they're so efficient they use zero extra power. I'm running the 4.2 leak for the SGS3 now (which is still quite rough around the edges), but when I had CM9 on my SGS2 I was losing 4% of battery overnight regardless of whether I used a static or live wallpaper.

I have a koi pool, constantly moving fish, interactive water and the ability to feed the koi and it hasn't had any effect on my battery that I've noticed and never appears as a named app in my battery stats.
