Is it crazy to get a Motorola maxx hd imported?

Kind of wondering if i made the right decision or not now

Still no luck with sim

Wifi is very jittery. Turns on and off randomly several times a minute
Signal is no different to nexus
Can't actually get many colours on led
 
Well at least you now know that you need to move to a better network! :p

Not sure about the SIM and the wifi thing.

It's such a pain with the network as tmobile are no where near as good value as 3. But I will probably have to change to virgin or something

I don't know what is going on with the sim, not sure if it's the phone or network
 
Think I may have to send this back. The wifi is very irritating and I'm wondering if there's a problem with the phone rather than the network
 
Just had a quick google and it appears that the wifi turning on and of is an issue, supposedly motorola are looking into it...... Double check your wifi settings on the phone and make sure you don't have any max performance or whatever (if there is an option) selected.

If trying to call the network operator from that SIM doesn't work in the other phone, then it is a problem with the SIM or something else, not the phone.

Have you checked the phone actually supports UK network frequencies etc. Some US carrier phones won't work in Europe. Don't think it's a particularly great phone anyway tbh.
 
Yes it has the frequency 3 use. I get signal but cannot make a call even to 3 services
 
I've ordered a few sims but I am doubtful as to whether they will work. Think it's going to be a costly lesson on don't import!

It's saying I'm on 3 and had signal... Just no calls
 
Is it the Verizon phone? Aka the Droid razr maxx HD? Technically its not designed/tested for other networks but has globle roaming capabilities.

Try

Settings > More >Mobile networks > Network Mode.

Then select Global.

Back tracking - didn't you say the same sim wouldn't work in your Nexus? I'm fairly certain that Razr HD Maxx's even on Verizon will work in Europe? Was the Razr new or second hand?

  1. Definitely should work - it's a full GSM device and is SIM unlocked to all networks other than AT&T and T-Mo USA
  2. Are you on the latest release of JB? There was a small update a few weeks back that supposedly contained a few fixes
  3. Lightflow for the LED :)
 
Yeah it should work, I'm going to try a few different sims.

The wifi is very annoying and it might have to be returned cause of this alone. It's up to date. I can't use any apps that require a constant on wifi as connection drops out every few seconds. I will try a WAP I have but it's not good

It did not come in a box so Tbh can't be sure of its new.

Definitely will not be importing again. To much risk. It's a good phone, but I may have got a dud. Did get a small customs fee which I will obviously lose of 40£

I may have to get an s4. Boo

Few!

Got this working now. I think there was something wrong with the sim card.

I got a tmobile sim and it worked straight away (and got better signal (all be it 2g) so I decided to cut up my old 3 sim and that is now working too.

The wifi may have been disconnecting due to poor reception despite showing 3 bars on reconnection. The talk talk router is either gash or our walls are really thick (the nexus seemed to have connection problems but it disconnected less but reconnected much slower )

I'm not enjoying chrome browser but can't figure out a way to get the default stock browser installed.. I miss the quick controls
 
I use Maxthon browser, find it much better than stock or chrome.

As for WiFi check to see if the option for weak signal is turned off.

Menu>settings>wifi>advanced and turn untick avoid poor connections if its on.
 
Chrome used to be good then they messed it about and some forums it does not render at all well. OC UK forum being one of them :mad: I've been using Boat Browser again and finding it pretty good. Don't know what they did to Chrome but it's been like it for long enough now.

I've no experiance of a talktalk router though did use talktalk for landline calls way back. Now if the router is anything like their service then it'll be rubbish. PC Pro mag dropped through the letterbox at the weekend and there is an article that says it's often better to ditch your 'bundled' router and buy something better. Been running a Thompson Speedtouch for years (now outdated I expect) and it runs our broadband at 6 megabits on a country line 4.5km from the exchange. Stable connection and good wifi coverage in the house.

I did wonder about your sim card when you said it wouldn't work in the Nexus too. Glad you got it working.
