Do I have a case to fight this parking ticket? Photos included.

When I worked as engineer, I was getting them quite often, because sometime you just HAVE to park somewhere and in that particular case it's not a main road, so nothing awful could happened if you parked there for some time
Just appeal against the decision, it won't cost you absolutely nothing. Very easy process, just find council's e-mail(department of transport) and write them, why you're not agree, saying, that you were in a rush and haven't noticed the yellow lines, as they definately need to be repainted. And add, that you'd never park your vehicle there if you knew about the lines, and that if council will charge you then you will be very disappointed, as they take money but do NOT spend them on new road marks, so where do the money go then...
For me it worked in 50% of cases, so give it a try. But anyway, you're guilty for parking like that, especially when you have a chance to park at allowed place.

Proximity to the junction makes the OP badly parked but the standard of those lines makes them entirely unenforceable.

DavidMarq on here has posted up some awesome letters with regards to councils and their application of the rules. Essentially they can't hold you to your end of the bargain (paying the fines) if they have not bothered to uphold theirs (maintaining the signage in accordance with the law).

As an average guy, I have no idea when looking at those pictures if those lines are merely poorly maintained or if they have been purposefully allowed to fall into disrepair following a change of the status of that road.

Incorrect. As they were not unbroken, he had every right to park there.

Of course though he only had a 'right' to park there because the council had failed to maintain the lines. Everyone knows - including the OP - that the intention was that people didn't park there.

Despite this I encourage everyone who finds themselves in a similar position to appeal - only through constant appeals and cancelled tickets will councils learn to maintain road markings properly.

I thought that if you appealed and lost, you have to pay the full fine? Not the reduced fine?

But yes technically you're illegally parked. Depends if you want to try your luck on the 'unbroken' aspect.

Glad to see you got off that one as the lines are barely lines!

I got off with a ticket for leaving my car in a bay for two days I think it was. My GF was topping up the meter as much as possible but it still had a max stay of 3 hours. I took pictures of both tyres being flat, a copy of the invoice from the tyre company who fitted on site and my address as I stayed 12 miles away so was unable to move the car any sooner.

I had left a note in the window explaining the situation and my car must be known to them as it sits there often. Doesn't matter as I got off with it in the end though.

Edit: Who thinks suing KPMG is going to end well...
