Review of Sapphire 7990 ; Part 2

My 7970 CF runs on TR done ages ago back when me and rusty were comparing 7970vs7950 CF.
Maxed settings, 1080 and 1440p.
1100/1500 clocks.

Thanks all - rechecking UPLS and other settings.

Does indeed look like XF isn't working, but both cards are showing usage during benching.

Some success.

Turned off VSync (was set to double buffer by default) and got this. Also have UPLS off in Afterburner, but switching VSync off made the differences with Tomb Raider.

Much better.

My Monitor is a 27inch Asus PB278Q and has max refresh of 60 hence my max score of 59.7

Wonder if this is causing other problems as not on a 120 Mhz monitor

OK got Tomb Raider up to 50 min and 72 Max FPS with new overclocks of 1100 CPU and 1700 Mem. Not quite in the leagues of XF 7970 but then I didn't expect that.

Other benches now benefiting from the OC which seems stable at these values.

Can't get the voltage to change though even though reviews said they managed it. They must have shipped the consumer ones voltage locked :(

On benches, temps reach low mid 80's. Room ambient doesn't really affect it at this heat :)

You got Max 90 / Avr 71 two posts above you..... what res are you on?

1080p res. It bounces around a bit, but average FPS is now reading between 71 and 72 depending on the run. Much better than the 59 due to vsync.

Good, your early results looked a bit suspect.

I haven't had a chance with TR yet, at some point this week I will put up a bench from my 7870 Tahiti LE.

How does Lite stack up against Bit? easier to dig out the Coin but what about value?

Yes easier and not affected by the ASIC bitcoin machines coming on line. The problem is finding the right combinations for your GPU's

I have found 1065 / 1700 and TC - 20480, GP 2 W 256 I 13 works best for me with some playing.

Now getting 735 per GPU which is nice.

735 is high for a 7970 and I have it across both GPU's :)

My 7950 was struggling to get 600

Have not done it since I sold on my 6950, even then I was not wildly into it, made a bit of money out of it, you know?

wouldn't mind giving it another go with Litecoin this time, though i'm not sure my GPU is fast enough for it to yield profit or that its cooler can handle it.

I guess the only way to know is to give it a go.

My rig will earn me about 2.6 LTC a day as this current difficulty about $8-9 a day. But I am mining them to keep for the future in the hope they are worth a lot more than $3 per LTC

There is something odd going on with the HD 7990 type cards and Tomb Raider.

Here is a review of an Asus Ares II , check out the score on Tomb Raider it is a lot lower than I was expecting.

Yeah, that's wired, 54 FPS on Aries II, and the same FPS on 1440P and 1080P? that's just 1 GPU again.... and why the same FPS on different res, its like something is bottle-necking.

Thracks, can you look into this? :)

@ Catanonia, does your GPU have boost? i'm asking as I know with mine if I don't turn the Board Power Line up it throttles.

I have just found another review where the HD 7990 does quite a bit better than above.

In both reviews they are using 13.5 drivers.
