Mates birthday build advice

My housemate at uni is looking to build a system for around 500 with potential to upgrade when the funds are available. The main use would be gaming and general work use. could people put me a spec together

Later in the year, prices will change significantly what with haswell (intels next gen line up of processors) becoming available. probably best to look then as current products will become significantly less value.

No...they won't...it takes years and always has for previous chips to drop down in price.

Bare in mind that Haswell is just a more efficient, slightly faster architecture than Sandy/Ivy, the price difference between a 3570k and a 4570k(right name?) will be £20-30.

Look at the 2500k, it is only £10-20 less than the a 3570k.

You would be lucky if the prices drop by a fiver between Haswell release and Xmas.

The only way you will get current chips/mobos cheap iis if everyone ditches their Z77 + i5 builds for the new ones.
