Hi All.

So it looks like when my power supply went the other month it has caused some other issues with my PC (crashing more often)

I was going to wait for Haswell and still will if the computer holds out.

In my last thread I said I wasn't going to play games but I'm thinking about playing games on PC again and get rid of my xbox.

Things I will be keeping from my old PC..

Corsair HX750w PSU (only a month old)
DVD drive
Hard drives

Case I will be getting..

Fractal Design Define R4

Parts I'm thinking about getting..

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £259.99
1 x MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Boost Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **NEW REVISION** £239.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £112.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML16GX3M2A1600C10) £99.95
Total : £725.82 (includes shipping : £10.75).

Of course, if my current PC holds out long enough for Haswell then I would get a 1150 socket board and the 4770k cpu.

With the price of the case added, the above comes to £805.82

What it will be used for..

Light gaming & work.
I'm a self employed web developer so I'll be using Photoshop, Fireworks, Eclipse, Aptana, VMware (just to test websites in different browsers)

What do you think? Is it all compatible etc?

The budget is £850 and I won't be overclocking.

Its good but very excessive for LIGHT gaming and the fact youre not overclocking.

The 7950 is a beast, a 7850 would be still MORE than enough.

Photoshop is not very demanding, though rendering does use a lot of RAM so thats a bonus..

Though i don't think photoshops benifits from hyperthreading (i very much doubt it) Meaning the 3570k (or 3550/3570) will be spot on..

With Haswell round the corner may be worth waiting.

Thanks for the reply Doomedspeed.

To be honest, I'm not really worried if the computer is over spec as I prefer to have extra there to use if I need it.

And light gaming could and probably will turn into a lot of gaming when I don't have a lot of projects on :D

I'm currently running a i7 870 cpu, is the i5 3570k a lot better?

Again, I'm going for the k model just incase I do decide to overclock one day.

If my computer holds out then I will wait for Haswell, but if it dies on me then I will need to get a replacement within the week so I don't miss deadlines. I normally make a PC last me around 5 years before upgrading.

Fair enough. It fits into your budget so why not.

Its a great spec.

You got a SSD?

Not yet, getting one in a few months hopefully, even though SSD really don't worry me.

I currently have around 900 GB of work files on my main drive and just haven't had the time to sort out and move the files onto my spare drives.

Once I do that and just have the OS and programs on the main drive I'll then think about getting a SSD and clone the current hard drive to it.

So in the end I went with the spec above, I changed the GPU to Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce though do to the reviews of the MSI.

Sadly my old PC didn't manage to hold out for Haswell :(
