Something I just came up with, if he has a DVD drive or HDD then that will help get it within the price range.

Yeh still depends on what hes playing.
I would say hold off till your friend can afford £400+ personally, then it gets to a more realistic price.

Makes the little spec I did £284.

That's decent for the money mate, I'll definitely consider it.

However, I'm trying to convince him to spend £300 on the bare bones of it and save up a little for the graphics card. Hopefully he takes my advice otherwise he'll be pretty disappointed with the gaming capabilities of his rig. Asked him what kinda games he wants to play too.

Cheers guys.

Errm... Guys the mobo isn't AM3+, or am I missing something?

used market man.
I got me a 2500k, 8gb XMS3, H61 board (sucks I know but Im upgrading), 650w OCZ ZS PSU, 1tb HDD and a GTX 480 for 280 quid. lol. Sell my board, get a good board, good case, all in Im looking at 350 notes.

Won't need a hard drive OR cdrw guys. But still that doesn't really free up much money for other components...

Please make sure the HDD and optical drive are Sata and not IDE. I see you made a mistake over the mobo sockets as well when you spec'd. Stulid has corrected that mistake but there is no IGP on the mobo so you'd need a GPU too in the spec rather than adding one later.

Trinity really does look like his best option.

The A10K has a better IGP than the A8K

This is honestly as about the best you are going to get, if you get your bud to save up to £400, you can get a Z77 board + b-grade HDD/GPU and the rest will/should fit in with the price, give or take £20:

YOUR BASKET
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card w/ Nexuiz, Sleeping Dogs & Dirt Showd (GX-100-GI) £129.95
1 x Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £92.99
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £60
1 x GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB1600C9DC) £53.99
1 x BeQuiet Pure Power L7 430W '80 Plus' Power Supply £39.95
1 x **B Grade** Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-252-SE) £30
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Midi Tower Case - Black £28.99
Total : £449.96 (includes shipping : £11.75).

This is about as cheap as I can get it with a Z77 board, this means you can drop an i5 in it end of the year when a bunch of them go second hand for intels new chips, or you could just bite the bullet and get a b-grade H67 chipset or brand new z68, not sure which is better:

YOUR BASKET
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card w/ Nexuiz, Sleeping Dogs & Dirt Showd (GX-100-GI) £129.95

1 x BeQuiet Pure Power L7 430W '80 Plus' Power Supply £39.95
1 x Foxconn H67M Intel H67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £34.99
1 x **B Grade** Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-252-SE) £30
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Midi Tower Case - Black £28.99
Total : £424.96 (includes shipping : £11.75).

But you have to understand that IF you get a H67 chipset it would almost be pointless dropping an unlocked i5 into it, you can still overclock just not as well. The z77 chips are regarded as the best overclockers, hence the price on them.

You also have to understand that if you do buy either socket, there will be no new CPU's for it, ever. Your only upgrade is going to be from an i3 3220 > i5 3570k or straight to the i7 range if you want to take up video/music edited etc etc.
